Similar to snowballs and slimeballs, dynamite is thrown and can be stacked up to 16. When tossed, the stick will have a 3 second timer, after which it will go off. By holding the right click for a second or two, it is possible to "cook" the dynamite before tossing it for a timed blast. Throwing the stick at a mob will make it detonate instantly if it hits regardless of time left.
Standing in the center of the explosions will deal 5 points of damage maximum which makes it a heavy weapon equivalent to the standard arrow with greater power and less range. All blocks with a resistance of 20 or less will be destroyed by the blast. Therefore, your stone walls aren't going anywhere (wood, on the other hand, is an entirely different story). For further reference, See the Minecraft Wiki page on explosions
When ejected by a Dispenser, it will count down and detonate normally. The Dispensor itself can be destroyed if too close to the blast radius.
While nowhere nears as powerful as TNT for demolition, all objects destroyed will have a 70 percent chance of dropping.
RECIPES:
To obtain dynamite, you have to disassemble the TNT crate and seperate the dynamite sticks it's composed of:

Alternatively, if you do not have a workbench at hand, you can craft one on the go with a less efficient recipe. = Dynamite stick
Everyone feel free to comment, and modders, feel free to take this into your own hands if you choose.
If there's four sticks of dynamite you can get from one block of TNT, wouldn't it make it so its more powerful then normal blocks of TNT?
While Dynamite if more efficient for combat, it does nothing when mining stone which gives good old fashioned TNT the edge for heavy demolition. Also, it's more efficient for traps since you only use TNT, a plate, and obsidian whereas Dispensers and Redstone are needed for Dynamite causing even more need for replacement. Dynamite is more like the bombs in Zelda; useful for only combat and maybe blowing a weak wall here and there.
Still, you might have a point with TNT giving too much dynamite. Perhaps reduce the output to 2 or 3 sticks?
I could go for this. Small explosives that only effect like a 4 block area for small mining jobs, or if you want to boobytrap your front door without blowing up half your house. :smile.gif:
It's not a mistake, it's just more visually recognizable as a cube shaped explosive. however Dynamite, is too long to stick on the side of a block, so TNT takes that responsibility.
Type: Weapons

I said the same thing then:
No,
and TNT and Dynamite are two different things.
Then why does the TNT block look like a group of dynamite sticks?
Because Notch made a mistake.
also, you may want to check out Extended 2x2 crafting for throwable explosives that are pretty well balanced, but still has some kick and function.
