I've seen quite a few suggestions in regards to adding effects to lava so as to provide a forewarning or just look/sound cool. This idea is a slightly different take on what I've read so far. The idea is that whenever lava is directly adjacent to any given block, that block should emit a red glow that doesn't give off very much light but is bright enough to easily notice, and then that block would cause those next to it to glow some, but half as much, and then so on and so on. This is different than the lava itself glowing and/or casting light on cave ceilings and such. This is more like, if a player has dug up under a lava bed, then all of those rocks will glow deep red so as to warn the player not to dig any further. Here's a general picture:
<- bright red glow <- medium bright red glow <- medium red glow <- medium dark red glow <- dark red glow <- no glow at all
This in addition to ideas like this would further help players avoid accidental lava flooding and/or death. Also, it would look pretty cool.
Your thoughts?
EDIT: almost forgot. When mining blocks that are glowing like this, they would emit hissing noises so as to warn even further of the danger the player is putting him/herself in.

Don't pick your nose with a pickaxe. Use a shovel.
