Version History:
v0.1 - Made thread. Only implemented 2 types of mana pearl to start with. Next idea is pearl fusion; Purple mana pearl.
v0.2 - Added poll.
v0.3 - Added 4 new types of pearl, 8 new types of book and 4 new types of staff. Planning to add enchantment next update instead because of revision. Too tired to care at the moment.
Mana Pearls:
Mana pearls are gems that are found in nature which contain special attributes depending on their location. They can be harvested and used by humans as weaponry.
Spawn Rate refers to the chance that a pearl will spawn on a particular surface.
For example Frost Pearls would have a 15.00% chance to spawn on ice or snow while an absolute 0.00% anywhere else.
Frost Pearls:
Found on top of or near large ice patches.
Common - 15.00% (10.00% on ice / 5.00% on snow) Spawn Rate
Used in Frost magic for their ability to freeze on impact.
Volcanic Pearls:
Found floating in or around large pools of lava (in both Nether and over world).
Common - 15.00% (10.00% in lava / 5.00% on Netherrack) Spawn Rate
Used in Volcanic Magic for their ability to burn on impact.
Arcane Pearls:
Created by fusing Frost and Volcanic pearls together (Place a pearl of each into a crafting grid [in any slot] in order to fuse).
Used in Arcane magic for their ability to shock multiple targets on impact.
Natural Pearls:
Found randomly when defoliating trees.
Rare - 10.00% (10.00% from leaves) Spawn Rate
Used in Natural magic for the ability to control various aspects of nature.
Divine Pearls:
Found randomly around midday in direct sunlight. They despawn before sunset.
Very Rare - 5.00% (5.00% in a random location) Spawn Rate
Used in Divine magic for their ability to heal wounds temporarily.
Dusk Pearls:
Found randomly around midnight in direct moonlight. They despawn before sunrise.
Very Rare - 5.00% (5.00% in a random location) Spawn Rate
Used in Dusk magic for their ability to spawn allied monsters for a short period of time.
Mana Staves:
To use certain types of magic you would need a certain type of staff. This tool is carried in your hotkey bar when used in combat.
(1 dura point is taken away for every 1 spell casted / 2 dura points are taken away for every melee hit)
Frost Staff
Volcanic Staff
Arcane Staff
Natural Staff
Divine Staff
Dusk Staff
Mana Books:
This is the more contraversal part of magic craft. Spells are what expresses mana in different ways, from Frost which would freeze opponents to Dusk which would summon allies. Read on through the information on spell books.
Basic Books have 15 Charges and Advanced have 30 Charges. When you use a spell you use a charge. When you run out of charges the book disappears.
Frost Spell Books:
Basic Frost Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / 5 second freeze / 3 x 3 spread block radius when shot at landscape
Advanced Frost Spell Book (right) - 30 Charges / 10 second freeze / 5 x 5 spread block radius when shot at landscape
(example: converts all water into ice and covers all affected land with snow layer blocks)
Volcanic Spell Books:
Basic Volcanic Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / 5 burn freeze / 1 damage per second / flames CANNOT spread to other mobs / creepers auto detonate
Advanced Volcanic Spell Book (right) - 30 Charges / 10 burn freeze / 1 damage per second / flames CAN spread to other mobs (example: flames will jump when burning mob comes within 1 block radius of another mob) / creepers auto detonate
Arcane Spell Books:
Basic Arcane Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / 5 second stun / 1 original damage / CANNOT hit multiple mobs in water
Advanced Arcane Spell Book (right) - 30 Charges / 10 second stun / 2 original damage / CAN hit multiple mobs in water (example: shoot it towards water to electrocute all mobs within a 10 x 10 area with the 10 sec and 2 damage effects in place)
Natural Spell Books:
Basic Natural Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / Growth Spurt - Increases growth speed dramatically for crops and plants within a certain area (5 x 5)
Advanced Natural Spell Book (right) - 30 Charges / Defoliant - Eliminates all leaves attached to a set of log blocks when shot at the log block (example: shoot at tree trunk to rid tree of all leaves instantly)
Divine Spell Books:
Basic Divine Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / Instant heal - 2 hearts / 10 second cool down
Advanced Divine Spell Book (right) - 30 charges / Instant heal - 4 hearts / 15 second cool down
(self healing magic, not mob healing such as repairing golem's health)
Dusk Spell Books:
Basic Dusk Spell Book (left) - 15 Charges / Summon Skeleton Archer / 15 Second spawn / 5 Health / 1 Damage per Arrow
Advanced Dusk Spell Book (right) - 30 charges / Summon Cobblestone Golem / 30 Second spawn / 10 Health / 2 Damage per Hit
Using Magic Equipment:
.
Equip your magic book to the shield slot of the inventory (yet to be implemented).
Equip your matching staff (respectively) to a hotkey slot.
Arcane magic is lightning based magic that have stunning effects on mobs as well as electrocuting enemies within water source blocks.
Summoning magic is a special magic which will summon timed mobs to fight for you. Cobblestone golems and Iron bone skeletons are my current ideas.
Divine magic is holy magic which can either heal players or burn undead mobs.
Natural magic is special in which you can bend the environment to your will. Defoliants, mining-charges and growth spurt are all planned spells.
Enchantment is when you embed magic into tools to make them more resistant or affect against certain types of mobs or terrain. A fire enchanted shovel would automatically turn sand into glass when used. Only negative is the half dura which enchantment produces.
Fusion is when you combine two types of pearl together to make a new type, using Clear Mana Pearls* as you basis you will combine say Fire and Ice to form cloud magic otherwise known as Arcane. You can make different types of mana pearl via fusion.
5 for you my Friend! I Would Like To Add A Bit If You Don't Mind. Like 3 Paper Makes a Book You can have 3 Mana Scrolls Make a Spellbook. The Mana Scroll Would Be Made as Paper surrounded by a Mana Pearl . Love the idea! We really do need some magic. I usually play as a Wizard myself in most games.

Not a bad idea, it does make it more challenging to use magic which is what I want. Consider it noted down.
Just mentioning to all, I will try make around 10 or so elemental magics. Some will be hard to get such as healing while your basic ice magic will be easy to find. I might have one summoning magic as well, I was thinking cobblestone golem but I am up for suggestions.
I support this thread these are all good ideas, here are a couple of my own.
(1) Enchantments: Give tools, weapons, and armor elemental power.
(2) 5 elements: Earth,water,fire,wind, ice.
Earth: on tools increased durability, on weapons right click for stunning blow, on armor, increased defense
Water: on tools increased speed, on weapons increased knockback, on armor increassed ability to breathe and move underwater
Air: on tools right click to draw in items, on weapons right click to send enemy flying, on armor decreased fall damage
Fire: On Tools increased damage, on weapons right click to ignite enemies, on armor recoil for enemy melee attacks
Ice: On tools right click to freeze water or lava, on weapons right click to freeze enemies, on armor increased speed
(3) elemental stones, you would get elemental power from certain kinds of crystals that you would mine for, each element wouuld hav its own gem, Topaz: earth, Ruby:fire, Saphire: ice, Emerald: air, Aquamarine: guess
(4) Staves that would cast spells based on what gem they had, basically wands, but bigger
THank you for your time.

1) Yes maybe, i was thinking about enchantment, but i don't want magic to overtake minecraft
2) I was going to do: frost, volcanic, arcane, summoning, divine and natural . . . you'll see
3) No no, thats what pearls are for
4) I will make wands 1 stick and 1 pearl, then make staves what I currently have

woah great thread mate, also what element will purple be? i was thinking arcane or lightning but that doesnt really make sense (lava + water)
arcane can like paralyze or maybe spread to nearby enemies, it could be uber rare since lightning doesnt strike often, you may need to make a lightning rod to get it to strike it :ohmy.gif:

Maybe, but I rather have it also zap things in the water.
Cast it to the water and then it will zap everything in a certain radius for highish damage, efficient way to kill octopus anyone?
Cast it to the water and then it will zap everything in a certain radius for highish damage, efficient way to kill [squid] anyone?
What are the odds that the squid is close enough to shore that you aren't yourself standing in said water?
Good question and I don't believe I have mentioned it in the O.P . . .
When you use magic it is shot out in the form of the corresponding mana pearl, it is similar to when ghasts shoot at you in that the fireballs will fly straight and whatnot. When you shoot with certain magic you will shoot a orb of that magic. That answers how you can do it without standing in water. However arcane may be a bolt of lightning instead, idk.

And I was joking with the squid.
Mm. I guess if it wasn't 6:00 am, it might have been common sense to me that these could be ranged magics. All I had in my head was smacking the water with your lightning rod.
No further objections here. I don't really care for magic in Minecraft, but that's a personal opinion.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways
When I saw this was by the guy who created Rangecraft (Or at least posted it) I had high hopes. But alas, it contains spellbooks and wands/staves. I've never supported that kind of magic.

Thank you for a positive first post.
I intend to serve to the community's suggestions so please do suggest away.
Keep in mind I wish to make this the most reasonable and straight forward attempt at magic.
I've managed rangecraft long enough to realize that xD

Divine will be healing and teleport home
Natural will be like instant tame or instant harvest of crops
Let's just see how it turns out, alright :biggrin.gif:
Not actual mana.
I am not sure if you have read it through yet either.
It is merely the name for the pearls which power the tools, you don't have a separate mana bar or anything.
EDIT:
Logic and minecraft don't really come together well.
If Notch is going to implement magic at one stage at least you would want it to be derived from ideas based on user suggestions.
Pfft, nothing like wow mate, besides it is one of the better ways to get magic so dont complain :x
