I know that Pigmen are a cancelled mob, but personally, I would like to see pigmen in forest biomes, wandering around. They Pigmen would wander around the forest area in groups of 2 to 3. They would eat leaves off of trees. When you approach, they would either run away, or stare at you and not move. To tame a Pigmen, you must feed him sugar cane. so, + (being sugar cane) = Trained . Once a pigmen is trained, it automatically puts on a blue shirt. They will then follow you and attack enemies that you attack, like wolves. However, a Pigmen whistle can change how you control these mobs. To craft a pigmen wistle, you need to arrange the crafting table like this: ( being sugar cane) The whistle could do a number of things: Right click on a square to make you pigmen go to the square, Right click in the air to make them follow you. Right click on a pigmen to allow him to wander, right click a mob to tell the pigmen to attack the mob. Hold right click for 3 seconds to make the pigmen start mining within the area they are in. Pigmen would dig 3 blocks down, and a 5 by 5 square from where they are standing. Hold right click in the air for 3 seconds while the mine command has been activated to tell the pigs to stop. Pigmen will not attack pigs or Zombie pigmen. Right click a Pigmen empty handed to open up it's equip menu. It has the armor slots to equip armor, and a hand slot to make it hold something. It also has an ammo slot to put arrows if it is using a bow. Zombie pigmen, while they require 3 sugar cane as opposed to 1, can also be tamed. Normal pigmen will not go through Nether portals, but Zombie pigmen will go though any portal. Zombie pigmen will sink to the bottom of water though. When normal pigmen are not tamed, they are neutral. After 3-5 minecraft days, they will take shelter in the nearest forest biome, and begin storing items in chests, eating surrounding leaves, and cutting down trees. In the chests they will store wood, leaves (the only way to obtain them without modding), and wooden tools. If you steal from their chests they will attack. They group in tribes of 4-5 and live in small 5x5x6 wooden houses that spawn once they colonize. Once they colonize they put on red shirts and are impossible to train, but can trade with. (Put an item in their chest, and take an item from their chest, and they remain neutral.) I just like the idea of having an army of bow wielding pigmen following me and raiding surrounding pigmen villages :smile.gif: . Please give me feedback on this idea!
At most I would want pigmen who i could use for a very few (but possibly complicated) jobs,
Before going on, i would like to Mention that Mining is Not one of these tasks, for it is likely far too complex to program. also note, I am aware of the colony mode thread, I just find it far too complex.
When/if normal Pigmen an/or Villagers are added I think players should be able to somehow get them to fallow their instructions.
To do this though would come at a cost at first, not just in resources, but in area and infrastructure.
What I'm simply proposing is that pigmen should require food at regular intervals in order for a player to be able to order them around and keep them. I think that around 1 bread a day per pigman working for would work out in terms of the amount space required for farmland. Failure to supply the pigmen under you with food will cause them to quit working, and eventually begin to despawn. Inversely by feeding the pigmen under your command their numbers should increase with a somewhat large amount of time. You should also have to equip most pigmen with the tools/weapons they'll be needing (notice: most I was referring to unarmed/unequipped, pigmen).
As I said, pigmen would be able to do a few jobs, I'm thinking most of them could be simply boiled down to guarding, harvesting, and planting. the abilities for a pigman to craft items and set solid blocks im unsure of, it seems too difficult to program, and too much of a "game-breaker" (one possible exception to crafting, making bread from wheat).
Now by guarding, I meant to make it possible for the pigmen under your control to defend a pre-set area, whether this area is one surrounding a patrol path, or an area surrounding a single point. pigmen could use swords, bow, and armour of any kind
By harvesting and planting i mean the ability for pigmen under your control to manage farms for you. Now while this may seem a cheat (farms and food are required to keep pigmen under my idea) I think it could work out pretty well, and would allow the player to focus on other things of importance.
One major flaw in my idea is that of the exact method of controlling pigmen, I cannot think of any-real solutions.
