Me and my friend on a server were wolf hunting when i brought up that there's really only 3 biomes: Normal, snow and desert. Then he suggested a jungle biome, and we all thought it was so great, we decided to post it on the forums.
Part 1: New flora
If you want a jungle, you need flora. Its a fact of nature. The most obvious is that kind of tree with the tan trunk and ridges. Anyone remember its name? You can climb up its trunk to get at the top. The next flora would be a normal fern. You can take its leaves and turn it into an antidote for snake venom, or plant the leaves in the ground to grow more. There would also be thick reed-like vines, that you have to cut through with your sword to get through. Cocoa trees could also be found, which work like reeds, except they need shade, not water.
Part 2: New fauna
The old passive mobs wouldn't spawn here, only small slimes. Instead of wolves, we would have jaguars, that sit up on trees. In order to get leather and wool, you would have to find sloths. Be careful though, sloths are fast when on land, and they will try to get on land when you attack them. Meat and milk would be obtained from boars, a new neutral mob. You would obviously have colorful birds to obtain feathers. Tigers would also spawn, that try to attack you when your off guard, kinda like the boos in mario. Spiders would spawn a lot more around here. Snakes can spawn, which are usually passive, but can spawn aggressive, and poison you. You can use an antidote from the ferns to cure you of the venom.
Part 3: New ores
Platinum was one thing we were thinking of, and being able to craft chainmail from it. Platinum would fill the iron-diamond gap.
Part 4: Effects on crops
Trees and wheat would grow 30% better then in any other spot. Reed wouldn't need water as close to them because of rain.
Part 5: Temples
Temples would be made of brown cobblestone, and full of traps and monsters. At the end, there might be a boss battle, or just straight to the treasure.
Meh, I just think some flat land with the occasional pond with plenty of really high trees and small stone patches would be good.
Thing is that if you want all of that you'd have to upgrade the other biomes too since there's no real things exclusive to biomes save for the wolf and cacti.
