I saw the idea a while back to add a Fossil "ore", and I really liked the idea. Thought I would bring it up again to see if people would accept it a little better.
Here goes:
BONES UNDER YOUR FEET
> While you can get Feathers from both Chicken and Zombies, adding fossils into the game will allow you to get bones from something other than just Skeletons. This is good because it makes them available to players who choose to play on Peaceful mode.
> Fossils can be found at almost any depth, but... Fossils closest to the top layer would be in small veins(1-3 blocks), and be about as common as Coal; Fossils at the deepest layer would come in massive clusters(6-12 blocks), but about as rare as diamonds.
> A single Fossil would yield one bone and can be mined out with pickaxes better than Stone. This puts them in the time frame of players who have made a settlement and are ready to start really surviving. A fossil block would look like stone, but with some array of bones sticking out from it-- perhaps a skull, perhaps a ribcage. They aren't blocks of a continuation, that you can put together and make a whole skeleton. They'd just be a mine-able block that drop bones.
MINE-EARTH: 20,000,000 BC
I think adding in Fossils gives the prospective idea that Mine-earth has been around for a LONG time. So long that ancient beasts have lived and died, and been buried under the world, their skeletons preserved in stone. Of course, that's just what you'd infer when seeing fossils like I've described. It doesn't have to be an official part of the Minecraft Mythos. But it's an ambient thought that might perk your interest.

Anyhow, I do believe I saw this idea originally on the Mod Request Forum. I'm unsure of where it's gone since, but I haven't heard of it in a while, so I decided to give it a kick start again. Regardless of that, this idea is simply a way to get bones without risking life and limb in a difficulty setting. Don't be angry at me for asking this. I personally play on Normal mode. But not everyone is a hardcore fanatic player who can get a stockpile of diamonds within 10 minutes of playing and has no trouble beating mobs to a pulp. There ARE people who play Minecraft as a way to relax and be creative, and sometimes Mobs get in the way of that.
Well I did say I was curious about where it went, neat that the guy actually got a mod for it. Clearly it wasn't difficult! kinda adds more reason for it to be a real thing, not a mod.
Also the first link doesn't show anything for Fossils. Used Ctrl+F because I was lazy, said 0 results.
And on a final note, They REALLY gotta get that search feature fixed. Such a hassle going through Google just to find something around here, especially since we used to be able to do that without leaving the forums! Oh well.

So give it a fair chance and do NOT be rude.
