So how is everyone feeling about how blocks should fall?
I'm not sure. I'd like it if only obsidian floated, but as I'm chopping down a tree, it might feel odd not to be able to push it over sideways.
I wouldn't mind having to make a hole above me as a tree came down so I wouldn't get suffocated or clobbered by a branch. More types of cave ins would be awesome, inspire care when mining, but also enable chunks of ceiling to be moved or to crush an opponent

or something like this

A long time ago (A very long time) I suggested a new gravity system that would make every block fall, but only if there was not enough 'support' from other blocks. If I remember correctly, it was something like this:
[] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] <--- This cobblestone block was too far away from the pillar and fell.

This is what is keeping most of the cobblestone blocks from falling.
I'm rather scared of this subject. On it's own, I don't have anything really against things falling if they aren't connected to anything else, but then I remember all the floating islands I make that I know don't have a hint of obsidian in them.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways

I also think I suggested that slimeballs be used to keep the blocks floating without the support pillars, but it made no sense then and it makes no sense now.
Some downside to making every/most blocks affected by gravity is that no more floating islands would be generated, and a lot of buildings would suddenly fall and crush people.
I really like the soaring, gravity defying structures that can be built currently. I feel like we'd be sacrificing creativity and freedom for realism.
I can't get behind anything that limits creativity in Minecraft.

I spent my first night in a tree crying for the spiders and skeletons to go away.
Silence, vermin! I am in command here! Who did you vote for, vermin woman? Did you vote? Can you read? Have you got thumbs? SHOW ME YOUR ****ING THUMBS!

I remember this, I was going to include it but didn't want to complicate the poll. It's what i'd prefer, personally, with different materials having different horizontal strength.
I would like it if trees fell down one block when the log on the bottom gets cut down. It would make it seem like we were cutting down a tree rather then cutting up. It would also make it easier to completely cut down larger trees.
Maybe dirt could fall, just because random floating blocks of dirt are a pain to get to and they look ugly.

My primary floating island is a 111x111 circle of dirt that I built on top of. =/
