I had a thought while designing an elevated mine cart system over multiple shelters I've built in survival mode, and it came to dawn on me the mine carts don't like to move very conveniently.
So I've come with an idea, I'm new and hopefully this will receive positive reception.
A track booster. It is made by combining two red-stone torches and one mine cart track. It's pressure sensitive, so an empty mine cart will lock in place but it won't trigger the boost. To trigger it, a mod, or a player will need to be in the mine cart for it to activate. A person can combine the red-stone torches and the tracks alone, or they can add in a stone button to create a switch activated booster and in turn the booster would permanently lock the cart in place until the button is pushed thus adding a potential breaking system that won't sent your storage cart rocketing the opposite direction from where you wanted it. This is also toggleable while sitting inside your mine cart, so you're ready at any given time.
The red-stone torches act as a small magical spark that propels the mine cart down the track at top speed. A person is able to place multiple 'zippers', so to speak, along a large stretch of track to maintain a constant level of speed without ever decreasing. This would provide a speedy means of travel as well as an excellent storage delivery system.
My other thought is a track switcher. A person would combine a set of say, three tracks potentially, with a stone button that can be activated to switch the tracks between a set. A person would use this to effectively create a multiple storage/travel system without the labor and issue of creating multiple carts for each set of tracks making it a little bit smoother to transition between locations with ease.
An effective use of this is to have your track branch off from the middle of another. A boost track would be placed by a pressure sensor, or a switch of some type to halt your movement, so you can trigger the sensor with an arrow or hit the switch from your mine cart if its close enough to switch the track, or you can just hit the booster and continue on your given path.
--All in all, this is my idea and how it would be created, I hope people find this useful as it maintains a sort of steam-punk atmosphere without too much magic or technology and adds additional function to an already implemented element and makes it more practical to use.
Positive comments only please, constructive criticism, polite, is welcome; I'd like to hear what people think.
Edit: Okay, scratch the track switch thought, it seems a trial system is in-game already, my bad, but if you like my thought on it better, feel free to comment.
