I don't know if this has been talked about before, but I think that ores should spawn in other blocks than just stone. I think it would look nicer if there were andesite, diorite, and granite versions of coal iron and the other ores.
I cant imagine creating the new textures would be too hard. Mostly just a change in how ore is generated I bet.
Some people are already annoyed enough by the fact that there are now two variants of each ore, but at least they occur on different layers, while adding variants for andesite, diorite, and granite would mean you'd have to deal with 4-5 variants (at least with Silk Touch), and some ores may be difficult to see due to low contrast (this is an issue I've had in my own mod, which adds ores based on sandstone and other blocks which replace stone in deserts, mesas, ice plains spikes, etc. Iron in particular is very hard to see against a granite background, at least with the old texture):

Oh, I didn't think about that. I like collecting stuff so I was excited when they introduced the deepslate ores its not like it changes anything really about how to mine it, its just another fun block to collect/build with. I didn't think about how much the iron blends in with the granite.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
