I don't know if this was thought of before but I would like to see a light source besides the sun that you could make to light zombies and skeletons on fire. Almost like a UV floodlight. :3
I figured it would be like a forge where you need to feed it coal (fuel) to keep it lit. An even better addition would be red stone to the light source so you could set up multiple lights around your base and activate them at the same time to clear out any danger around.
This would be a much safer option to such things as lava, flint, and maybe more economic than an arrow dispenser. Also would be cool to have a little mini sun. :3
I was just thinking about it after I played on a private server where they had pumpkins modded so you could attach levers to them to turn them on and off.

Yeah, what he said. Just get some netherrack and set it on fire.
~They say it's what you make-I say it's up to fate-It's woven in my soul-I need to let you go -Your eyes, they shine so bright
I want to save that light-I can't escape this now-Unless you show me how~
I like that idea. I think there should be a light source other than the sun that can eliminate zombies/skellies. Maybe not as quickly as the sun (Obviously it shouldn't be too overpowered), but still...

Flint could do the job but I find it to be risky, could easily miss and hit some grass which then ignites tree and just starts a horrible domino effect. Plus it could only get one mob with each use.
What I'm looking towards is a block (not a weapon) that could ignite them and keep everything else safe, so much like a mini sun. I just think there should be a cost to using it by making it run on coal (fuel). This way it wouldn't be too overpowered and would give you a reason to gather a bigger mob than one or two zombies to burn it with. :3

You guys are surprisingly uncreative for fans of a creativity based game...
OP, I definitely agree that we need something like this! At the time glowstone was released, I thought that was what it was really for but then got a little disappointed... but hey, it's still prettier than torches.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HAVE IT KILL CREEPERS.
Something has too, they're treated like royalty. "No sunlight damage, silent, destroy blocks" ugh, need something that hurts them non-manually.
With this, we could expand on 'lights' allowing lightable blocks upon a switch, and since they'd be on the roof we'd need to add redstone wire (or is that what the dust is called already?) which can go up walls and hang from them. I do like this idea, would be worthwhile to put it into minecraft.
Perhaps we could make locked chests be like that? XD they defend passive mobs by burning nearby regular mobs.
