*In a metaphorical sense, seeing how it disappears when I make physical contact with it. Which brings me to my point:
WHY THE NETHER DOES FARMLAND HAVE TO DISAPPEAR WHEN YOU STEP ON IT.
I can see why it goes away when mobs step on it;you want free, sustainable food you've got to make protective room for it. What I can't see is why it requires so much effort just to make sure you don't step on your farmland or you lose your crop/effort/dreams.
(If you didn't know, stepping on your own farmland/wheat=it goes away)
TBH it's really annoying. Let us walk on our own farmland. It makes growing much less of a pain and would make farming a rewarding task. Farms already require so much effort to begin with (sealing off mobs, getting seeds, hoes [lol hoes], proper light, the time, the water, etc.) and this makes it pretty annoying, especially to waste some more time on farmland/grow back a plant.
If we simply can't just walk on it, allow us to creep/sneak on it at the very least.
What's there to lose? Farms will still be the labor-intensive, time consuming, advanced things they are. They still will have little compared to waking outside and getting some meat right away. Just make it a little easier.
I don't think this has been suggested;I've searched Google and the Stickies. If I'm wrong then it needs to be brought up for farming's sake anyways.
Hm. I could be wrong but I thought sneaking on wheat prevented it from being ruined.
If that doesn't work then just make walkways between rows of crops.

I spent my first night in a tree crying for the spiders and skeletons to go away.

Because trampling crops doesn't make them trampled?
Why don't you just sneak, it isn't really a hassle.
Because we shouldn't have to.
But I'm a bit happier knowing that you can sneak, seeing how it didn't work on my comp. I'm going to update MC again or redownload it because quite frankly it's tramping them as I sneak right now.

Read third post, build that, problem solved. No walking on crops, no mobs walking on crops, easy lighting, water out of the way, and crops grow best in straight lines anyway (except the ones on the ends).
I don't understand this flaw in farm making. You can't have sugarcanes and wheat farms in contact with each other, because sugarcanes can only grow on dirt, which grows grass. Mobs spawn on grass which will trample your wheat. :/
Be sure you have your farm fenced in too keep critters out. Also make sure that there is a source of water (not flowing water, a SOURCE) within 4 blocks of each farm tile and on the same block level as the farmland (neither higher nor lower). This keeps the tiles hydrated and makes them much less likely to revert back to normal dirt. It also increases the rate at which your crops grow. And make sure you sneak around your land. Sneaking was added in a patch specifically so you could farm without destroying your land.
Here's a schematic of how I like to lay out my farmland:
= fence = farmland = water = fence corners with torches
Of course, I also have a door for an entrance. It would be nice if we had gates, though.

Don't plant them together like that. Sugar canes and wheat require very different conditions to grow. If you have to get rid of grass, don't shy away from digging up half a mountain to get isolated dirt that never grows grass. I purposefully built my farms and base out in the ocean so livestock wouldn't bother my stuff. It also makes it harder for hostile mobs to harass me.

Don't pick your nose with a pickaxe. Use a shovel.
100% safe from everything but chickens, wall it off to protect it from them.
You walk along with your back to the glass and hit the wheat, then run along with your back to the glass again to plant the seeds. You'll grab everything on the way just running up and down each row.

Build it inside with no grass and your good to go.
Correction;sneaking helps.
Never did on my comp but it says so on the wiki. Must be a bug.
Either way, we should still be able to stand.
