Add a ancient city compass that can be crafted with echo shards compass and some more items that idk its too hard to find ancient city randomly and also mangrove..
I like this bit I would fins it better when you can get this without seeking for an ancient city first because you need echo shards I would prefer a trade at a late stage for a cartograph
Do like this idea, and as Chaosteven pointed out, it would make more sense if you got the map from the cartographer. I would love if the cartographer also sold ore vein maps, that also show the y level that it starts at.
Ancient cities can be most easily found by rushing into a cave system headfirst while with brightness up and nothing on you, then when you find one you just die and come back prepared having the route laid out. Given they're huge structures in a specific biome, finding them is really a matter of finding big caves (which now line the overworld).
Considering the possibility that regular villagers wouldn't know about the existence of ancient cities, the structures should have at most a chance to be found spawned somewhere deep under a mountain biome. They definitely shouldn't be as easy to find as using a map, as they are supposed to be rare structures. But there is already a possible method in finding their locations.

I've tried it before, and it works
