Durring farming out gunpowder on hard difficulty for hours on end v.i.a killing creepers, and after being killed multiple times by skeletons, I decided that gunpowder should be craftable, as it is a pain to get large enough sums of it for any useful amount of TnT. Coal (being an actual part of gunpowder i believe) is what i would assume it would be made out of, along with whatever else may make it less like wood (overly easy to gain huge sums of). The benefits of craftable gunpowder would mean a higher amount of TnT, and easier access to TnT, which is a fantastic tool to use in mines.
The cons: blowing yourself up, destroying ores / diamonds, chance of flooding your mine with lava and/or water.
Caution and luck easily prevents those things, but they are the chances you would take with TnT as is. = love
Good ideas, they could bring back sulfur and make it mineable and add potassium nitrate as another so u put it in crafting like this: = potassium nitrate =Sulfur
coal is also used in gunpowder in real life
With the sole exception being to blow players up on PvP servers, I've never once had an actual use for TNT. Why would I want to blow some giant hole in the ground anyway when I can just as easily strap some common cobblestone to some common sticks and mine it out? TNT is just a commodity that doesn't really need to be easy to get.
And I would absolutely hate to see what happens when the griefers realize they can just mine some coal before blowing up everything.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways

If you knew how to read i would have a little more respect for you, so instead im going to take you through this in a way your simple mind may understand:
Coal is an example, as it is a real part of gunpowder.
This is the hard to grasp part, are you ready? Ok.
! And whatever else may make it less like wood (easy to obtain in huge amounts) !
Get it? That means you actually have to go and GET things to make TnT! Man this is hard. If you need any more explaining, feel free to ask :smile.gif:
i had suggested using 3 sand (which is normally where you get saltpeter, charcoal as they use charcoal not regular coal if i remember correctly (which i do), and sugar, why sugar? because i didn't feel it necessary to add in a sulfur resource for gunpowder only. i also thought it would be a good idea to need 2 or 3 of these per powder. this means that you would need to grab 2-3 resources that are each native to their own biome/area. you also need 5 gunpowder for TNT so in order to make the TNT you would still need 34-49 items to make a single TNT, which means that it will still be a rare resource. this might also give purpose to sand, a normally useless resource (unless you like glass)
another option is to replace sugar with gravel so that that resources has some use. this might be better as gravel is found mostly underground, thus requiring you to work a bit for it.

Hehe. Converting your response to troll-speak doesn't make it any more readable, but I think I sifted through the stupidity to get what you mean.
"Whatever else" could be anything, and let's look at the options. Wood? Easy to obtain. Stone? Easy to obtain. Iron? Easy to obtain. Water? Lava? Sand? Dirt? Snow? Pork? Saplings? Eggs? Sugar? Wheat? All easy to obtain. Unless you think mixing coal with diamonds is somehow an intelligent crafting design for gunpowder, my statement still stands.

Hard to obtain? Yeah. The materials should be in the nether and only found in deposits, probably deep underground to give the Nether more of a purpose and Nether mines moreso;perhaps sulfur ore, which is highly combustable and will set you alight if there's a nearby fire, requiring Glowstone . Or as someone suggested, something time-consuming like sugar or something to craft individual sulfur. Not realistic, but since when is everything a freaking block?
It shouldn't be something just handed down to you, but I think it's fair if it's somehow implemented so you don't have to rely on annoying creeper explosions and mob traps while still requiring a good amount of work.
