these are a few ideas i had on making stuff blow up. minecraft takes place in a medieval/renaissance/fantasy/roman-classical setting. anyway some of that setting involves explosives in their most primitive form. in this suggestion i will post a few ideas for additions to add in this segment of minecraft.
Gunpowder:
we already have TNT, and it is really hard to get thanks to creepers, but what if we could create it. I'm not talking about a simple recipe, gunpowder needs to remain difficult to get, but i think there should be some way to create it. in real life gunpowder is a mix of KNO3, Sulpher, and Charcoal. i think a good analogue for that is sand, sugar, and Charcoal. and to make it difficult you should need two, or even three of each to make one gunpowder.
Muskets:
these will be very primitive guns. this would be the best portable ranged weapon in the game. the gun itself should be expensive. my idea for it is that it comes in two parts. the barrel, and the mechanism.

you then put them together (mechanism then barrel) and you get a musket. this way muskets are already hard to make, and it's still not complete. being a ranged weapon it needs ammo, which it gets from mixing two gunpowder with one iron (gets 3 ammo). in this way guns become the best weapon, but are hard enough to get that they do not become overpowered. as well there is a stark contrast between owning a gun and being able to use it, making guns difficult to maintain.
Cannon:
cannons came before guns. cannons are simpler, bigger, and less mobile. i propose cannons for minecraft, (especially since we have TNT) but i also believe that we should continue to make gunpowder weapons difficult to get and maintain, so that it feels like the "state of the art"
cannons should come in three pieces, the barrel, the mechanism, and the carriage. the barrel is the same as the barrel for the gun, so i will now post the carriage:

the carriage would go below the barrel, and the mechanism beside. cannons do not take ammo, but they instead take cannonballs:

this makes two cannonballs. cannonballs cause an explosion when they hit their target (though this is less than TNT by a little bit) cannons are placed like blocks, but can be entered like boats. cannons can rotate on the spot, but cannot move (they're heavy) cannons have an inventory where you may place cannonballs. cannons are the most powerful weapon in the game, but are immobile and are the hardest to build and maintain. cannons may be packed up, but doing so breaks it into the three unstack-able parts (barrel mechanism and carriage as well as the ammo.)
cannonballs cannot be stacked in more than two's (if possible within engine.) thus making the transport of a cannon impracticable. the main use for a cannon is defensive. you could place the cannon on the top of a tower and shoot zombies at night. also if Notch implements modular ships than cannons can be used on them. finally cannons can be used simply to look cool and intimidate you're foes.
i was thinking it would be a very simple and primitive tool that breaks often and is very hard to replace. but could one hit those DANG CREEPERS! plus i thought it would look cool.
