OK, to start, I've never played MineCraft (Yet). But I've watched hours of "Let's play" stuff, so I know how the game works. (And when I get my new gaming PC in 2 weeks, I'll be playing MineCraft all the time. Right now, my PC can hardly handle the free version).
Now, on to my suggestion. I think it would be so tight if MineCraft had rare moments where meteors would crash. Just small meteors. Maybe 2x2x2 blocks. But here's what I imagine: You're in your little house at night. Maybe that you've built out of dirt, because it's your first day or two, and you just happen to look out the little window you've built, only to see this falling square surrounded by FIRE crashing to earth!!! Oh my GOSH! There's another one!!! (Dives out of the way) WTF?!?!?!?!?!? MORE??!?!??? Frick! I've got to dig down lower!! Maybe into the side of this mountain!! *Dig dig dig dig dig*
And then your little crappy dirt house gets blown to smithereens because you failed to at least put a cobblestone layer around the top. So way to go, I bet you'll be more PREPARED next time! *slams something on the ground to make the point*
Also, I'm sorry if this was posted before. This is the first time I've been on the forums and I failed to locate what is probably a fairly obvious "search" button.
this has been suggested before. I wouldn't mind it random events like this, but . . . there are threads on it and the only way to search right now it through google
site:minecraftforum.net meteors
people have discussed method of implementation, difficulty, toggleable, frequency, why, why not, what can it destroy, is it fair, is it necessary, is it in the right ambience . . . Some threads are too old to post in, discussion too far gone, but there is still a huge split on people's opinions about random events, especially if they can alter the landscape and destroy buildings and resources.
Lol. See, I've never read anyone anywhere talk about meteors in MineCraft. Funny how what seems like a pretty random idea, to me, can be so common with enough people.
hmmm, that's tricky, I would really love more random events like this, stuff that can make your big super safe home at least somewhat vulnerable to the outside. I don't know though, it should be very rare if it's going to be say big meteors or something, they could start fires on impact if the block is flammable and maybe a big one or something could explode upon impact, that would be cool.
Still though that's be very complex to work with and make it balanced but good idea.
While I do enjoy the possibility of Meteors, it's been suggested to death.
And if they are added, there should be an addition menu box under the difficulty for Disasters to be turned on and should include flooding, meteors, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc.

The next time an authority asks me, "What could possibly have given you such a lack of respect for the value of human life?" I will respond, "Sir, have you even BEEN to the internet?"
Reccomendation: Wait until you have been on the forums more than a week before posting suggestions. Otherwise we get posts about nukes and meteors all over again.

No. Seriously.
Griefers, lava, creepers, that's enough for me.
