I'm not a developer or modder, but I had an idea and wanted to get some feedback, maybe someone with [email protected] m0dding skillz will take up my idea? Eh?
In summary, any critter (excluding hostile mobs) will not despawn (or will respawn as it was) when it is inside a fenced-in area of the appropriate size.
This idea requires two new items: A crook (that stick with a hooked end that shepherds use), and a gate.
The crook would allow the player to 'carry' or guide a wild animal (again, non-hostile) without doing damage to it, and would be crafted thusly: []
[] []
My proposed gate would act just as a fence does, except that it can be opened, and any animal or player would be able to pass through it. As I see it now, the gate would be crafted like so:
[] [] []
To bring it all together, here's how this would work:
A fenced-in area would be created by the player with one fence piece replaced by my new gate piece. This area must be no smaller than 4 blocks in surface area, and no larger than 100. This means no smaller than 2x2, and no larger than 10x10. Once the area is created, no mobs will spawn or despawn within its borders. The player would then gather the animals he or she wishes to domesticate by using my new crook tool, release them inside the fence, then close the gate. The player is now free to lollop around the world while the sheep grow more wool, and any animal of 2 or more will reproduce. Not sure how the reproduction thing will work, any suggestions on how that spawning should be controlled?

Time for Piratebay to swoop in and lock it.
