I've had this on my mind, as a "Natural Disaster" in Minecraft for awhile, I know there are many, many, MANY threads on this topic throughout the Minecraft forums, but i actually have given this some creative thought and would like to see what you all, as a community think about my idea.
Earthquake Notes/Thoughts.
- An Earthquake has a 0.0045% chance to occur every 10 minutes.(About a full Minecraft day or night.)
- Earthquakes may only occur Within a 64 block radius around a At least 1x10x10 hole full with Source Blocks of water. Basically any pond/lake/ or Shoreline, to give it a more of a realistic effect, instead of having them randomly happen in the middle of a valley, they happen near a shoreline or type of water pool. The reason for this is because of Tectonic plates, hard to explain but hopefully you get where i'm aiming at.
- Earthquakes may only occur when you are on Hard difficulty.
- There would be a GUI setting to turn Earthquakes on or off. For people who want Earthquakes on for that extra sense of thrill or random act of destruction, Although even with Earthquakes turned on you still need to be playing on Hard for them to Occur.
- The only blocks an Earthquake could destroy/move would be Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Water, Lava, Wood plank, and Logs. Cobblestone would have a small percentage of not being destroyed, but being moved 1-5 blocks away in any random direction within an earthquake radius, this goes Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Water, Lava, Wood planks, and Logs also, but with the percentage of being destroyed too.
- Any glass blocks within the radius of the earthquake has a 72% chance of breaking,
- Earthquakes can effect any blocks up to 25 blocks below or above the Epic Center of the Earthquake.
- Any Source blocks in a Earthquakes radius has a 95% chance to spawn 1-4 other Source blocks of Water around the original Source blocks, causing types of floods, if you get what i'm saying.
Conclusion:
Again, i do realize there are MANY threads on Earthquakes out there, but this one is involving effects that i haven't really seen posted in other threads, and giving it a more realistic look, and less destructive effect after. I hope you enjoyed this post, and please leave any suggestions i could add, or thoughts on this, positive or negative. Thanks!
