*EDIT*
My suggestion is like a flowing water. Its like when you drop an item in the water it would go where the water flow ends. Like rail tracks, when you put a cart push it, and some point there would be no tracks and the cart would just drop. Thats' my idea, its just conveyor belts.
Put a block on it and it would go in your desired direction. Good example here is like, flowing water. When you let water flow in one direction, drop a block and it would go where the flow of water ends. get it?
Does it go uphill? How do you place them? Can you make turns with them like railroad tracks? What does it provide that makes it better than using water?
No information on how to do that yet, with right click I suppose, also no information, and nothing.
I suppose it could be done. A conveyor belt would be a lot more useful than water or even train tracks in certain situations.
1. Conveyor belts could be laid like track, but forcibly encourage you to move in one direction, much like water does.
2. Being flat and in open air, it wouldn't obstruct you like water does, theoretically allowing you to move faster by walking forward on a forward moving conveyor belt, much like travelators at airports.
(This might be a tad overpowered, but would let you "walk" faster than a minecart perhaps.)
3. Each section might be built like this: =Leather (WHY IS THERE NO LEATHER SMILEY?)
Limitations:
1. Can only be made in one direction. Cannot turn on a dime.
2. When laying/building, direction you are facing dictated direction conveyor moves "away" from you.
3. Powering it...hmmm. Perhaps every 20 conveyor lengths, you need a powered furnace (complications), or a redstone torch every 6.
4. Each conveyor belt going in it's own direction needs a seperate power source. Although putting a redstone torch in the corner of two adjacent belts might be a glitch providing power for both.
Programming:
1. Some physics programming using the pushing force of water, without it's movement restrictions implemented for conveyor belts when anything "steps" onto it.
(This might be a great base defense!)
>Creeper comes toward base
>Base surrounded by outward going conveyor belts
>Creeper: "WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?!"
2. A simple recipe addon would be needed. Currently teaching myself how to do the same for my Light Cube. Check it out!!! Click my awesome signature artwork!
3. Would only need a new animated gif for the artworkl; perhaps four horizontal differently shaded grey boxes moving away from you (a forward moving belt) , and looping it would suffice

I suppose they could. I don't see why they couldn't. I mean train tracks do. Why not this?
Peace out.

You haven't explained any of this.

What do you mean?
How would it work?
