I had an idea of making a two-handed weapon and adding it to the deep dark cities. I'm not qualified enough to be making these kinds of things so I throw I would throw the idea out there and see what kind of response I get.
As for the new two-handed weapon, I think that there should be a Scythe added to Minecraft. It's a far fetched idea but here me out.
The scythe will lock the user's left hand and have a slower cooldown than a stone axe, but deal more damage than a netherite axe but will not be able to perform critical strikes. It can be an rare to ultra rare drop only found in chests in the deep dark cities. There may or may not be a crafting recipe for it depending on if the developers want to add one or not but if there was one I wouldn't use sticks for the handle but rather iron bars in the middle and bottom right spots with three netherite ingots in the middle left, top middle and top right spots in the crafting table. There could be a new enchant to go with it called "Slice" which is a mix between sharpness and sweeping edge that increases the damage dealt to all targets within its swipe. (All targets hit with a single swipe will be dealt the same amount of damage).
With poleaxe i mean this weapon. Don't know if it has a specific name.
Halberd?
Problem with two handed weapons and polearms in general, it's that in Minecraft you couldn't offset the actual damage buff and reach with manoeuvrability, imaging using a polearm in a 2x1 tunnel
So I think we should wait for the next combat update before trying to suggest new weapons...

True. But that would also count for sword and axe in a 2x1 meter tunnel in real life. (Reminds me of goblin slayer)
It would be even worse for fighting under water. (Why do minecrafts arrows behave realistic in this case?)
It's ironic that we can't oneshot skeletons but swing meele weapons under water dealing full dmg.
That's why realism doesn't count that much for minecraft combat imo. It just needs to be balanced.
Edit:
And no, i'm not trying to push my favourite weapon here.
If someone says a polearm doesn't fit into minecraft or it's just not cool enough, I'm fine with it.
But I'm against the scythe itself.
Firstly, it's a farming tool first and foremost, and less of a weapon, to act as improvised weapon its blade is usually attached more like spear spike.
Secondly, its functionality seems to be a hybrid between high-alpha axe and area-of-effect sword.
Instead, I propose a battlehammer, whose specialty could be heavy knockback, and perhaps an alternate right-click strike that pulls your enemy towards you and deals just as much damage.

I can't say there's anything 'bad' about the idea, but I don't see what this really offers. I don't see the point of throwing in another enchantment just for this ultra rare weapon - assuming if it wasn't craftable. I'm better off just sticking with my enchanted sword and/or axe. I'm not seeing much use in this slow two-handed weapon other than existing just for the sake of existing.

How about this? I know this wouldn't turn the weapon into the most 10/10est thing ever, but what if it had the ability to block but not as good as the shield?

A 2 handed weapon could be interesting.
Instead of locking the offhand slot, a negative buff such as very low damage ect could work.
What type of weapon is a different story.
A Poleaxe would make most sence from a realistic standpoint bc of it's versatillity.
Warhammer, axe and a spear combined to 1 weapon makes it the best pick for offense.
I am against the scythe bc it's to simular to the hoe. Same goes for 2 handed sword and axe.
However, the weapon doesn't need to be realistic. It needs to fit into the existing combat system.
I can't realy talk about pvp bc i'm just bad at it.

New deep-dark polearm sounds neat overall.
