Idea is as follows - The player should be able to convert dripstone blocks to get calcite blocks... Variant A: ...by right-clicking the block with a water bottle.
or Variant B: ...by smelting it in the furnace.
Reasoning:
1. Lore: In real life, the material responsible for stalagmites and stalactites existence is the calcite, chemically calcium carbonate - it's a substance that is minimally soluble in water and easily residues into its mineral form, creating spike-like structures. I think the dripstone as mineral in Minecraft is just an umbrella term for calcite with various impurities and salts that change its appearance.
2. Gameplay: Currently white calcite blocks have to be quarried from geodes or biome-specific mineral clusters. This change would increase abundance of this mineral, and make it viable alternative for quartz in white-colored artistic stonework, while also giving dripstone farms an additional, if minor and cosmetic, utility.

Dwarf gamer found:
Buildings - square, not round
Materials - from rubble mound
Dark caves - lit 'n' cleaned out
Settlements - deep underground
Farmability - to grinder bound
Shields - made creepers but sound
Axes and crossbows - taking mobs out
I also like the furnace idea; renewable calcite via.drisptone would make for an interesting mechanic, even if it is a bit more available in stoney peaks. (Though admittedly, I don't think there's enough you can do with Calcite at the moment to make it worth farming.)

Support for the furnace method.
The waterbottle method reminds me of crafting lot's of dispensers,
which isn't a fun compared to building creative redstone machines.
My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
