Properties/Elemental Blocks
Please consider this idea: These blocks would be enchanted with a specific elemental property (ice, fire, earth, water, etc.). When mixed into recipes they would simply add their property to the finished product. An example: mix a fire stone into a sword recipe and you get a sword that lights things on fire when hit. Mix a fire stone into armor and you get armor that prevents you from catching on fire. These could get really creative for example if there were an air stone and you combined it with a sword, enemies could be pushed back by it from a short distance away. Mix the same air stone into a bow and the arrows shoot further. Even still, mix an air stone into a helmet and now you can breath underwater :biggrin.gif:
These would be VERY rare blocks located deep below the surface; possibly near mob spawners or guarded by a particularly challenging mob. Maybe even in the nether. Or even cooler, areas in the normal world where the nether is bleeding into the material world. Rarer than even Lapis Lazuli. While not terrible original in terms of game concepts, these would be incredibly interesting in Minecraft and could actually be used to make other features of the game much more compelling (this could be used as a really good reason to go to the nether or continue mining in the normal world even after many resources have been gathered). Or if ruins are implemented in the future, these blocks could be their center pieces giving an even better reason to explore the world.
Implementation- Although I'm sure that this would be thought of as a daunting addition to the game, consider this: they could be added to the game one at a time. Because the game balance system in Minecraft is more manageable than other games (because more focus is placed on interacting with the world than strictly enemies), each type of properties block operates independently of the others. Implementing the fire block for instance would effect only certain already existing recipes.
Well enchanting....dosent really sound minecraft. I like the idea about mobs guarding really rare stones and ****, but Most of this has been planned, like breathing underwater I think was a suggestion, fire swords were another one (made by some odd material in the nether)
Maybe the stones guarded by mobs give you like...more health for a bit or something?

But its a bit not minecraft style.
