Notch said something about Adding NPCs such as: Goblins, or Pigmen, and also said they would have prespawned villages. My suggestion is that they spawn in a flatish area with trees (about 8 of the species) and go to work. 4 or so would get wood, 3 would start leveling the terrain, and the other would get some wood and make a workbench to craft tools for the others. They would be able to drop blocks just like you to to each other, but still they would be very crude. They would level out a 25x25 area, regardless of what was in their way, and then they would construct like 8 houses, all connected by roads. Later, they would have more people (some would randomly "spawn" I guess as it progressed) and some would find other towns, go to war, make roads between them and set up a trade route, **** like that. Finally, you come in. If you come to a town, these guys are like REALLY primitive. If they see you with something like a diamond pick or flint and steel, they will either be afraid of you, or worship you like a god and throw iron at you :3 If they hate you face, they start shooting stuff like arrows, hitting you with swords, and basically call up their friends to find your house and say "Beat the **** out of it"
I don't know. This could involve ALOT of AI programming, and simulation. Also for the fact that they wouldn't despawn would cause more lag (maybe only keep the chunks they are in loaded, also an option for if you want them to spawn when you make a world) This seems like a good Idea, I have no idea if it has been suggested before, but it would make me feel a lot less lonely in minecraft :smile.gif:
Edit:
Basic Coding.
A explorer sees a pig. It kills it. If pork is obtained, check if inv is full. If not, continue. If yes, go to my houses chest, deposit items. If health is low though, place furnace on ground, cook pork if coal availble. Eat pork, take furnace.
Mob Behaivor:
If (mob) in presuit, welidsword, turn around, wait until close, click, run away. Repeat until dead.

If you mentioned that, (somehow I think you probably did but I missed it), then, sorry, but still.
