this is flawed, but is basically just a concept, and i will edit it later.
what im proposing is this, very simple. a new realm. not like nether, or aether, just a neutral, completely flat, empty realm. no mob spawns unless you place them. a portal that leads to nowhere. an infinite expanse of nothing, with an unmoving sun in the sky. just a blank canvas.
a custom realm.
the way you would get here is though a portal, like nether, but smaller, and easier to make. a bit like this.
[] []
instead of a 2x3 area, its a simple 1x2 area of entrance, made of mossy stone commonly found in dungeons. for the portal color, white? for starting it, i dont know, maybe fire an arrow through it? simple to make, simple to start.
build it like its classic mode. yes, this sounds a lot like classic mode in concepts, but (when notch make portals work on SMP) a lot easier to share. build using whatever materials you collected in the normal world.
there has to be a point to all your hard work. especially on SMP.
tools
obviously, there would have to be something to remove obsidian, lava, and tnt, and you dont want to waste your new tools for just moving something that you put in the wrong place. so, there would have to be a tool to remove dangerous objects, you would need an ultimate build tool. naturally, it would be impossible to bring this to the outside world. it may seem overpowered, but it is also necessary. this tool would be called the megatool
spawning
also, its no fun to be alone in these worlds, another tool that would be needed is a spawntool. you choose a spawn from a list of mobs, and place the spawner anywhere. the spawns would appear as the head of the mob in a block shape. creatures that spawn from these dont drop anything when they die, so there wouldnt be any unfair mob farming.
why would you want this? easy sharing, building better servers, simpler building for cosmetic purposes, and just for fun.
thats all i want to write right now, but i will edit it appropriately if i get positive feedback.
You spent an entire paragraph being paranoid about negative criticism? For shame!
I would like this, but I wouldn't mind it if it was not part of Minecraft. Just an add-on I guess. Because then all I would need to do is build a portal and use this new realm to create a giant cove of infinite Diamond blocks, infinite Glowstone, Obsidian that breaks in one punch, and I would just collect it all Creative-style and bring it back to my Survival file.
This lovingly reminds me of the paradise world from Oblivion. I'm not sure what the advantage of this world would be though, unless if was something like a fantasy world.
It would be interesting if notch developed a foil to the Nether, a heavenly or paradise world filled with more amazing stuff. But the nether is still undeveloped so it's likely to take a while.

The way I read it, there would be no ores, if he wasn't thinking that then that should definitely be the case, stuff should also break with normal time.

you have a point. like i said, its an empty world, so no free diamonds. i did have an idea for an easy break tool, but not for one punch removal, more for removing tnt and obsidian without difficulty, has to be brought there and removed from there. the only way to get "free diamonds" is to hack them into your inventory, bring them in there, and take them out again for some reason. i still havent finished typing this out, i had a whole lot more to say, but i thought i would start small.
ps. i will fix the paranoid paragraph. (lol fun to say)
