This is probably suggested several times, but i'm adding some personal tweaks.
So, there could be a game mode for SMP. There would be original and versus. Original would be like the normal; connect to server, play game, grief houses ect ect. Versus, however, would bring you to a random lobby with multiple players. 4 people would be human and 4 people would be enemies. The enemy team would not be able to spawn in the day, but they could spawn in caves near the surface. The 4 humans would work together to survive as long as possible. They would each spawn in the same area and would work together. It would be Ironman. When a human dies, they become a member of the enemy team. When night fell, the enemy team members would be able to spawn and would choose a random mob. It always did random. Unlike humans, the enemies would be able to see in the dark. For the spider, there would be a reddish tint.
Roles
The Creeper: Your job is to hide and ambush unsuspecting players. You cannot explode at will and you will automatically start to explode upon close contact with a player. When you died, you would instantly respawn as a different monster.
The Spider: Your job is to gather information for your team. You have great mobility, enabling you to climb to astounding heights with little effort. As a non-burning creature, you can spy on the enemy and gather crucial advantages for your team. In the day, you would not be able to attack, unless provoked, but you can move at will. You would wait 10 seconds before respawning.
The Zombie: Your job is to be on the front lines, getting up close and personal. You can also shield friendlies from incoming attacks, because the zombie is the weakest. You would burn in daylight and have a 5 second respawn delay.
The Skeleton: Your job is to back up the zombies and unleash a barrage of arrows upon your cowering opponents. You have an unlimited amount of arrows. Though, because of this, your fire rate is greatly reduced. In day you would burn. 8 second respawn delay.
Strategies
Humans: A great strategy for the humans is to stick together through and through. If an enemy player hides next to your door as a creeper and you're alone. what do you do? Also, you should get bows ASAP to keep creepers at bay.
Mobs: You have AI allies, use this to your advantage. Have the AI attack, and you assist by coming in the back door. Also, pick off the ones with the lowest health.

This would be amazing. Just imagine about 10 humans in a humongous fort, working together to survive, and when night strikes, a horde of intelligent baddies burst out. This idea deserves not just diamond, but
i think the enemy team could also build things but at a maximum of stone tools. only zombies can use the tools but both zombies and skeletons can have swords(disableing there bow)
this would mean that at night time baddies can knock some trees, get some wood, then at daytime go into a dark cave
and mine cobblestone. this would give baddies something to do at daytime.
also, zombies should be able to break blocks but at drastically reduced speeds, this stops people from just hiding in a dirt box for 20 nights. it also means the humans would need glass to see through.

Also, skeleton bows should shoot slower, not less range.
i'd definately want to be a spider so i could climb walls.
but can the humans just lock themselves in a wooden box with torches everywhere?
this would mean that at night time baddies can knock some trees, get some wood, then at daytime go into a dark cave
