Battle Axes should be added to Minecraft as a new type of combat weapon. They should do %50 more damage than the materials sword and %70 more durability. If Battle Axes are added, Piglin Brutes should hold Golden Battle Axes.
I always like the idea of new weapons in Minecraft. Battleaxes have been something I've wanted for a while. I actually used to make custom axe variants that were a little slower but did more damage, and they were a lot of fun.
"Battle Axes should be added to Minecraft as a new type of combat weapon. Personally, gotta say no. I can't think of many instances in which Minecraft needs more tools/weapons, or at least ones that are very similar to existing tools/weapons. I for one would love some sort of short distance ranged+melee weapon, like a boomerang or chakram- but battleaxes seem a bit redundant. Axes are already substantially more powerful than swords, even if they lose durability faster in combat. I still almost exclusively use axes in battle.

Swords are handy to dispose fodder mobs like zombies in the open or ziglins through a bunker slit, or as a bought/enchanted weapon.
On the other hand, axes complement shields much better and bear much less risk of collateral damage in a village or near neutral mobs.
They also don't need enchantments to 1-hit kill animals and with actual enchantments and strength II can 1-hit kill every type of raid participant excluding Ravager.
To me those two weapon types are useful for various purposes, with extend varying depending on the stage of development the player is on.

Strong opposition.
1. Regular axe is already a weapon and can go as high as 80% of base material sword damage per strike, paying in how slowly it can be swung around.
2. Increased durability makes little sense. Tools of one material have identical durability.
3. Having just a better sword for a few chunks of given material sounds balance-breaking and is essentially a one-way-ticket for swords to furnaces or incinerator. If the player can already get two lumps/ingots/blocks of needed resource, getting just a few more is nearly no effort.

This just sounds like an overpowered version of the sword.
