I think we should be able to craft dynamite sticks. This is an idea for people who don't need as much bang as TNT gives. the formula would be: (sand) + (gunpowder) + (string) = (stick dynamite)
Runs vertically down the middle of the crafting table, sand on bottom, then dynamite, string on top.
The appropiate level of explosive powder for one stick would obviously be one-fourth of what TNT is, since it uses one-fourth the explosive materials.
What could possibly be in the sand that makes it so volatile? LOL. I have another Idea to play off this one, though. I will post it soon since I can post one suggestion per topic. THX for viewing this.
I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.
I think we can stay with what we have I mean. This is like a grenade in a sense.

I envisioned it to be more like a less powerful TNT that only takes up as much space as a torch, not a thrown explosive. This isn't a throwing weapon. It can be placed like TNT, but not on walls. I see the point you come from though.
Anything to put more explosions in Minecraft....
I know, I read it (or else I wouldn't of posted). I would still disagree, but this is better than many other newcomer ideas (nukes for example are horrible ideas).

I only disagree with that idea because I think exploding arrows are a better idea. If we get can get some
Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiish BOOM! We won't need throwable dynamite.
I also have a good idea to give this an advantage over TNT...
You now how when you place a fencepost, it connects if you pace another right next to it? I'm thinking that, since string is part of the recipe, You should be able to connect dynamite together in a similar manner.
But what's the point of two explosions right next to each other? I think that we should be able to connect two dynamites over further distances. using fences, you could connect the seperate sticks. placing fence next to dynamite will connect the string to the post, which will run along the fence till it reaches dynamite! cool idea, huh?

Not worth while? It uses less gunpowder, and I just posted another idea to compound its usefulness.

Just FYI.
