METEORS
Yes, meteors. This has been an idea of mine for a while now (I hope no one else has thought of this) and I have thought about it a lot. Think of it like this: You are patrolling you base, and all of a sudden you see a shooting star in the distance. You go towards the crash sight, and find your way to a giant crater. In it, there are new and otherworldly materials, such as rare ores or new tools.
What do you think should be found in these craters?
-New RARE ore that can be crafted into indestructible tools?
-Dragon hatch-lings?
-New Armors?
I like it. But I don't think it should drop something predictable.
Something truly alien should emerge from the crater. Something potentially dangerous. It would probably act confused and start off semi-passive, like pigmen, and then change its attitude about people and other mobs based on its experiences with them. Basically, if you attacked it immediately, it would hate humans.
Also, they might have some components of them be randomly generated, and there would only be ONE, and even that would be rare.

I don't know sled teams but I do know I put my dog on an electric treadmill once and dangled a chicken leg. Treadmill puppy ensued.
I have thought of this quite a bit and I think that the meteor should be 8 cubed in size, since 8 seems to be an important number in Minecraft. It should be made out of a brand new ore named meteorite. It will look like iron, although I think it should be orange and when you smelt the ore you will get a bar similar to again, iron but it will be orange and rival diamond in its strength, although much rarer.

we arlready have a mod about meteors that contain ore...
notch wont implement that.
how about rare material, and a chest full of diamond and gold stuff in the middle...?

Its not only the number 8, Notch likes binary numbers because they are easily coded. Binary numbers are 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512...etc you get the point, doubling everything. You can code numbers easier with this.
I was just thinking that it was important since in Minecraft the sun and moon are 8 squared, if you travel through the Nether its 8 times the distance 8x8 is 64 which is how much you can stack, which I now know is just because its a binary number.

It's okay, it happens to all of us. Including me, once.
