> In Java Edition, nether stars dropped by withers take 5 minutes to despawn and are immune to explosions. In Bedrock Edition, nether star items never despawn, neither by time nor by explosions.
Netherite exists now, it's been 13 updates since 1.4, let's make nether stars fire and lava immune in case the wither exposes lava or creates fire from its last skulls and explosion(s) when it dies.
if the nether stars could be destroyed by lava and fire I would never have noticed until you brought it up, and it definitely wouldn't normally be a problem unless you fought the Wither underground or in the Nether, because in the Overworld lava is not very common on the surface.
but it does not make sense that an item that is of a fire element can just be so easily erased by the same element.
Nether star implies that it is some sort of generator of the Nether's own eternal heat.
it is stupid that it can be destroyed by being dropped in lava in my honest opinion, shouldn't it instead cause an explosion and destroy the lava or fire? when matter overheats it tends to cause a violent reaction.
The nether star being almost indestructible would be a nice feature, only being vulnerable to Void, cactus, charged Creeper or TNT, but not Wither explosion, fire or lava.
I've never build a wither skeleton farm, wich is why i support the suggestion. It's just painful to hunt for them.
So losing a netherstar is just pain imo.
Wither skeletons spawn in enough abundance in fortresses that there is never any need for an actual farm built for them.
As long as you don't do something foolish like drop the wither skulls in lava or leave them dropped for too long after dying, wither skeletons at the rate they spawn in fortresses will provide players plenty of skulls.
This should be the case for any hostile mob with regard to drops, but it isn't always.
Some hostile mobs have terrible or subpar loot pools or rates.
Out of all of them I'd say zombies (regular) have the worst loot pools,
iron hardly ever drops, and the armour they drop only rewards nuggets when smelted.

Wither skeletons are elite mobs so it makes sense they give more loot. Although, on java it's much worse than on bedrock, for any mob.

I know I've said I agreed with people who wanted content parity, but unfortunately this would mean we bedrock edition players would have to put up with the negatives of Java edition as well, if that meant worse drop rates or loot, or higher amount of damage output from mobs, it comes with the territory.
The only way around that would be for Mojang to adjust the drop rates or loot pools as well as the damage statistics so they would be more like bedrock edition, but then you'd get the hardcore players complaining. Mojang's in a bind here, because there's not a single thing they can do to please everyone, no matter how much work they put in.

Support. It's extremely precious item and it's the essence of nether - land of fire and brimstone - and shouldn't be overly affected by its natural environment, especially when explosions that actually can destroy lava-proof netherite can't even scratch nether stars.

It should have been immune to lava and fire since day 1
there would be nothing more annoying in this game than fighting the Wither, defeating it, and then having the nether star destroyed simply because the explosion opened up a lava pool from beneath the site where it died.
since most lava is pretty much hidden within terrain it's not exactly within your control whether or not you kill a Wither in a safe zone.
if you kill a Wither without cheating and within the established rules of the game, you deserve the prize, no excuses.

You do realize lava pools exist in the Overworld right? and not all of them are exposed.
You can fight it at bedrock level, but there's still a risk of it floating upwards toward lava infested areas if you don't kill it in time, so there's no way to guarantee the nether star not being destroyed by lava unless you cheat.
and don't say fight it underwater, because water reduces your mobility, and the Wither can still attack you causing wither damage/status.
You look at any Wither boss related tutorial and they generally don't recommend fighting it in water for a reason.
Yes, please! One would think given how much effort it takes to get the thing it wouldn't be as easily destructible as everything else. (Losing the Nether Star to something that mundane is, yeah, pretty anticlimactic.)
The safest way to kill withers is in the bedrock ceiling of the nether, but even if you do that and surround them in obsidian, lava may flow and their own explosions can generate fire.

I wouldn't risk it personally, because netherrack is a weak material and it only takes an opening to a pit below to kill you.
fighting it at bedrock level on the bottom of either the Nether or Overworld would be the most reliable in my opinion because then you don't have to worry about any hazardous drops being opened up. Enchanted armour would protect you just enough for you to escape from lava without heavy damage most of the time.
Sometimes you dying in the game is a worse outcome than the risk of an item dropping in lava, because it could mean you won't get back to your items in time to recover them.
You can't exactly make a checkpoint too close to the Wither because if you did you would get spawn killed the moment you got back to your bed, or Anchor in case of the Nether.
Fighting a Wither is often a one shot deal because of that, if you fail it then the consequences would be destroyed items anyway, and dropped items barring the nether star aren't exactly known for surviving explosions.
I have never seen massive caves go above y = 100, and you can always protect the surrounding area and check it before choosing it.
But lava is more common in the Nether, this fact alone makes it more risky to farm Nether stars as this can destroy nether stars that drop into them.
Some of the lava exists within the terrain itself, buried, not all of the lava is exposed and in the form of lava lakes.
I'd much rather fight the Wither in the Overworld at bedrock level, the nether star is a super rare item that is also hard to obtain in vast quantities, even though it is technically renewable, it is not without its risks and if the farming op goes wrong you can ruin your world.
And even if you manage to farm 100's of nether stars, you've still got a lot of grinding to do before you obtain enough resources to make the fully upgraded beacons out of all of them. Making 1 full ranged beacon already means using over 2 stacks of gold or iron blocks.
Anything over 10 for a base is a bit wasteful imo considering.
Unless I was using them to cover an entire city, I wouldn't even consider going over 10 beacons in survival.

This never happened to me but i know how frustrating it can be to hunt new wither skulls.
I always kill the wither in stripmines, so it's just a matter of time untill that happens to me.
My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
I support

I support this idea!
The nether star is a pretty powerful item it should be lava and fire resistant
Jeff_Milk waiting for your reply thanks!
Yes. However, since wither farms are a very real thing, having stars never despawn is a bad idea.
I would say increase the despawn time to 8-10 minutes maybe.
It's also illogical for the nether star to be destroyed by something like lava.
Wither is a soul native to the Nether, nether star implies that it is an energy source of some kind, perhaps even nuclear.
However I would support having the nether star create an explosion if dropped in lava or fire.
Which gives me an idea, using beacons in a nuclear power station build.
