the new caves and cliffs update should feature the new mob (Wardens) dropping clay as they are found in caves likely to have clay if it were in real life and it creates ways to build renewable clay farms for bricks and pots and anything you'd want to use clay for. as far as vanilla Minecraft goes, there is no current way to create good, easy or efficient farms for bricks which critically hindrance building in survival as players have to manually retrieve clay and clay blocks that slows down the whole process of building.
The warden isn't just a new mob you can build a farm for.
It's a hostile mob. It's a dangerous thing you don't want to mess with unless you want a tough fight.
I know that it should drop some kind of trophy. But clay, realy?
I also agree - The warden SHOULD drop something, but IMHO it should be something 'Rare'
With the Wither boss we get the Netherstar
With the Dragon we get the Egg (+ lots of XP)
With the Warden - ????
Since - afaik - The warden is 'Blind' & senses the player by sound, then maybe it should drop a new item related to 'sound/vibration'
Maybe a 'Shulk Seed' which you plant like a normal seed in Dirt or maybe like the ChorusFlower only on a certain block type (Deep Slate ??)
The seed will grow into 'Shulk Vines' (similar to the Twisting Vines, maybe only 2-3 blocks high though) which you can harvest with Shears
- A normal Shears drop more seeds (maybe a 1-2 drop) - great for a Shulk Sensor Farm
- Silk touch Shears will drop the Vines, which you can place onto mycelium (maybe) to make/craft a 'shulk sensor'
I almost don't even want the Warden to drop anything, especially not anything as banal as Clay. I wouldn't mind there being some way to make Clay renewable, but the Warden isn't really the right choice IMO. It represents a threat, an obstacle, and consequently if it drops anything at all, it should be something of a trophy or valuable reward to reflect that threat.
It's nice to have renewable resources, and clay is pretty annoying to find, even with access to a Mesa. However, my main issue lies in that it now appears that clay is going to generate underground in the Lush Caves. Yes, not technically renewable, but it's certainly going to be a bit more common.

It makes more sense to add more natural clay in the 1.17 update, making clay much less annoying to collect.
Considering the fact that it doesn't have any benefits over stone other than aesthetics, clay bricks shouldn't be this hard to get in large quantities.
I have more trouble getting this than obsidian myself, which is completely absurd imo, so I do sympathize with people's complaints about it here.

Apart from Mojang having already confirmed that the Warden will only drop a trophy at best, I think clay should have a more logical way to renewably obtain it, such as by adding a way to weather cobblestone into clay (I could even see it using a gradual process to turn it into gravel and then sand, killing 3 birds with one stone).

you can trade bricks from masons.

I know there will be warden farms. And i'm ok with people exploiting the game mechanics.
But I don't want the big bad guy to become the next irongolem.
My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
I am with Eiche on this one
the Warden isn't supposed to be another exploitable mob you can farm for resources,
it's a nigh undefeatable monster that hunts you in the dark and kills you if you get ambushed by it.
Sometimes enemies simply are too strong to defeat and must be avoided at all cost, as fighting them
becomes a fruitless effort. Obviously the Warden isn't indestructible, but for all intents and purposes, it almost is.
People have long criticized Minecraft for how easy survival mode is, so I think the introduction
of a very threatening monster in a cave far below ground was a good place to start.
You're not going to be forced to fight this creature, you can simply go some place else,
as for getting bricks and clay, I think this matter should be handled differently,
but I don't agree with adding it as a loot drop to encourage cheesing the Warden.
with the increased terrain thickness in 1.17,
more natural clay would be a much better option in my honest opinion.
