So, it's a random idea and I don't know if it's been suggested, but I think it would be really cool if there was some type of label feature for chests or something like that. What it would serve as is a way for villagers to sort things. For example, if you have a villager carrot farm or something you could put a chest inside their farm with a label that has carrots. When they have carrots in their inventory they then go to the chest and drop them off. I feel like it would be a cool thing and have a lot of uses.
I could see the use of a label feature for chests beyond signs and item frames, but not for the use you describe here. I'm against adding features specifically designed to exploit villager mechanics. They are supposed to be their own "sentient" creatures, not slaves for the player's benefit. Note that I'm not coming at this from a moral or ethical standpoint, I understand they are not real. I'm coming from a logical game world standpoint, so I don't like the idea of adding mechanics that are built around making them easier to benefit the player unless they also get some kind of benefit from it. Implicit or otherwise.
