I'd like to see coal fires in the game. In real life, underground exploration can be greatly hampered by coal veins catching fire. These are highly flammable and almost impossible to put out. If a coal vein catches fire, it can take centuries for them to burn out on their own; sometimes these fires cause the topmost layer of soil to collapse.
I think it would add an extra layer of danger for miners, as very few natural dangers exist in the game so far. It would also be very cool :tongue.gif:
Wait so what are you suggesting coal ore to randomly combust, or it to just hold a flame? Either way if see the idea as useless. Randomly combusting coal ore would make the ore disappear from your map. And that really bad, and it holding a flame would be useless. Wood would do the same thing and nether rack would pwn them both.

I mean it should catch fire due to a reaction, possibly from something as simple as getting a flammable object too near to a coal vein. Like a torch or a stove. Or lava.
Or perhaps a random event that occurs as you approach or mine coal underground? I don't see why you suggested random combustion; I'm not aware that happens in real life, and I didn't in any way hint this.

This would be the perfect tool for griefers.
I don't get your point. You can already set massive forest fires; why would an underground, although pervasive fire be that much different from whats already in the game? If you allow people to set fires on your server, and you get griefers: wow, guess what, Griefers are going to set fires to grief. There's quite a few server mods for that.

Until the smart miner staring at the burning coal just mines it. I doubt it will still be burning in your pocket after mined.
It'll fall in the fire? :tongue.gif:
I don't know, currently the game has none of the hazards which come with mining. I'm just offering one that doesn't involve lava or skeletons *eyeroll*
A bad fire in your tunnel might be a cool hazard, but sadly its rather inanimate when you think that rock/dirt isn't effected by fire in the game, and most blocks don't collapse.
