I have dared myself to live underground and grow plants down there as well. Everything was going well until I noticed that was not growing underground. Without :grass:, there cannot be spawning underground.
I decided on making a quick research and found that I need to make a staircase to bring down underground. A few hours later, it barely grew 4 steps down. I thought it would be convenient having a way to transplant instead of having to use the staircase method.
My idea of a new item is rather simple. It consists of a bucket of water, :soil:, and which would yield :grass:. This way I would not have to cheat, or, I would not have to wait forever until it grows down the stairs to my underground layer.
PS, no images of a bucket, so imagine that the empty block is a bucket with water.
I support some sort of way to grow grass. It shouldn't be easy, but I also think crafting grass sounds silly, so I'm not sure about this particular idea.
