O.k forget explaining all that stuff that nobody cares really cares about, lets cut to the chase.
Minecraft.
NEEDS.
Magic.
Its plain and simple, Magic has been desired on Minecraft for some time now. and i wanted to make a simple and "hopefully" easy to implement magic system for Minecraft. Hopefully showing Mojang how awesome magic would be.
Most players that have fought ghasts have most likely thought about shooting fireballs BACK at said ghasts.
And i bet that has inspired quite a hefty amount of magic threads.
Great, i just realized that i totally didn't cut to the chase right there.
Well here's my suggestion for magic:
Suggestion one: Magic Essences.
I read a thread about aligning like 50 blocks to enter the spirit world and drain magic essences from blocks (can't remember the thread name) and i have to say i TOTALLY support the idea, but its most likely not very easy to implement.
So my idea is a GLOWSTONE ROD! Hooray!, (Uses Glowstone because that's the most magical block i can think of)
glowstone rods have a very long durability, what it would do: The glowstone rod would drain the essence from the block your pointing at (e.g stone, gold block, pig lol) and destroy it, similar to a pick-axe or shovel, except instead of giving you the block. it gives you an epic Magic Stone! (color depends on magic level).
Note: Each glowstone rod drain takes 1 second, there is no way to make it faster.
Those last words most likely got you thinking, "Magic Level? What the heck is that?" Well its pretty similar to Runecrafts block tier system (which is actually where i got the magic level idea from, thanks to creator of Runecraft) where different blocks and objects on Minecraft have different magic tiers depending on how magical they are (e.g cobblestone, whats magical about a bunch of rocks? tier 1, not very magical. glowstone, the most magical block in the game? heck yeah!, tier 5.) different tiers of blocks in game depend on how powerful ALL magic use in-game is, ill get to that "magic use" stuff later.
Note: Life can also be sucked from animals to get magic stones.
Note 2: Manufactured items (e.g Rails, Torches, Doors,) do not have magical essences, This does not apply to ALL crafted items (e.g Glowstone, Iron block).
Magic Stone Color for Tiers. (Use the same item model as slime, just recolored to keep it simple)
Tier 1: Black.
Tier 2: Blue
Tier 3: Green
Tier 4: Purple
Tier 5: Red
Suggestion 2: Enchanting
Yeah i know they're are a TON of enchanting threads, but hey, i thought that if everyone one else is posting item idea's now might be a good time to get mine in there, two birds with one stone, although my idea is a tad bit different then the others.
Basically, this is how the enchanting system will work with crafting.
Tools: Tools will be enchanted by combing the already constructed tool with the a Magic Stone in the crafting table, it will change effect depending on magic stone tier, and the tool level (e.g stone, iron, gold, diamond,) will not change the effect the enchant has on it at ALL.
Tier 1: Hardens the tool, making the pickaxe/axe/hoe/shovel/sword have more durability.
Tier 2: Increases the power of the tool, making the pickaxe/axe/hoe/shovel/sword farm, mine, and kill faster.
Tier 3: Lights the tool up, so basically the pickaxe/axe/hoe/shovel/sword has a light area of 10, lighting up the area your standing if you have the tool out, the light moves wherever you move.
Tier 4: Has the same effect as Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3, Combined at the same time.
Tier 5: Makes a TNT explosion on what you use it on, only different depending on the item. (e.g pickaxe explosion enchant will only destroy stone type blocks, shovel explosion will only destroy sand and dirt and what not,
hoes will only reap the farmland, doing what it normally does, but in a 5 square radius, swords explosions will only effect monsters, and axe explosions will only effect trees, and none of the explosions will damage the player using the items)
Suggestion 3: Casting
And now, what you've all been waiting for... The ability to cast spells!
This is how the casting system will work: You know the glowstone rod i mentioned earlier? well if you mix it with a magic stone you can begin casting, different spell depending on different stone.
Tier 1 Glowstone Rod, Air Wave: Air Wave is the Tier 1 Glowstone Rod ability that knocks enemies back 5 blocks, which can be useful for throwing enemy mobs into traps, off cliffs, and into that completely unfair 1000 block high working dispenser wall that i know you've built.
Tier 2 Glowstone Rod, Magic Prism: Magic Prism is the Tier 2 Glowstone Rod ability that locks the enemy mob in place for 2.5 seconds, allowing you to move in and get a quick blow on the enemy, Magic Prism has a 10 second cooldown on multiplayer, so that players don't just spam it to keep the enemy player in place.
Tier 3 Glowstone Rod, Healing Aura: Healing Aura heals the using players health by 5 health points, and has a 20 second cooldown for both single player and multiplayer.
Tier 4 Glowstone Rod, Rock Shard: Rock Shard is pretty self explanatory, it launches a shard of stone at the enemy,
pushing them back 1 block and doing 2.5 damage, has a 2.5 second cooldown on multiplayer.
Tier 5 Glowstone Rod, Fire Ball: This is most likely the easiest power to implement, it would function the same way as a ghasts fireball, and would have a 2 second cooldown on single player and a 30 second cooldown on multiplayer.
Well, that pretty much sums up my magic idea. hope you like it,
and Notch, i know you approve

Be Polite - If you can't be respectful of other members, at least be courteous. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Said that right on the rules man, didn't have to scream at me lol.
Plus even if notch doesn't add it, doesn't mean nobody can use it for a mod.
