I have ideas for a couple of new blocks that would be really nice, useful additions to the game.
MAGNETIC BLOCKS:
-ore mined from the earth, technically Magnetite
-once smelted, becomes a functioning magnetic block
-magnet blocks are placeable and will attract iron boots (if you've played Zelda, you'll be familiar with the concept)
NOTE: The characteristics of water would change with this update. As water is now, you automatically sink to the bottom. But in reality, people have to work very hard to fall to the bottom of of a large body of water! After the update, people would float by default (with some bobbing) and only sink when either using the down arrow or wearing heavy armor (e.g. iron boots). Though water has little to do with magnets, I think this would be a nice time for the update as adding special properties to armor is the common denominator.
MIRROR BLOCKS:
-The process to make it involves a few steps:
1. Mine SILVER ORE (would have to be a new block)
2. Smelt it
3. Combine it with glass on a crafting table
-Once mirror blocks are created, they can be placed and will be reflective on all exposed sides.
-The possibilities are endless!
Please offer criticism! Say which ideas you like and don't like! And if you think the ideas could be tweaked, leave your suggestions! I think that, implemented properly, these new blocks could really enhance the Minecraft experience.
First off, I'm fairly inexperienced here, evidenced by my low post count. However, I have been lurking for a while, and have an Idea of how to gauge suggestions.
I personally think that the battery is a bad idea. I don't do much (anything, really) with redstone, but I don't think this is a good idea. Making circuits reliant on batteries seems like it would be frustrating, and the technology doesn't quite fit in with the rest of minecraft. Seems like a rather pointless addition to me. Also, I think you're confusing the creation of a battery with the creation of an electromagnet. If you wrap wire around a piece of metal, and run a current through it, it becomes a magnet, but if you wrap wire around a magnet, I don't think anything happens at all.
For the other suggestions, I also don't think the ideas with iron boots and magnetite is necessarily a good idea either, but one thing I will say, is I like the idea of adding new ores that aren't intended for use in tools. We already have a good enough tier system as it is, and we don't need anything else, but I really think that people could get the variety they want from other ores that are mined for other properties they possess, like redstone.
I am not a person to ask for specific suggestions to make something better, but I think that both of these ideas could have potential, especially the mirror. I'm sure that just giving it a few properties could allow for possibilities to be discovered by players over time. Although I might think that introducing silver specifically for mirrors is kind of too complicated. Could iron be used instead? not as accurate, but come on, it's minecraft.
Just my opinion. I don't really like or dislike the idea, but I think it could have some potential.
I think there is some kind of reverse effect thing that can be done, but I can't remember how it works, and I think I misspoke about the battery. I'll remove that part of the post.
Also, about iron-- eh, doesn't really make sense. Silver was used for mirrors back in the day, and now it's usually aluminum (I'm simplifying the process, but Minecraft tends to do that with everything, so NBD). I also think silver could be used for other applications, so adding it isn't dumb.
