What if, when you jump onto leaves from a height that would normally damage you, the damage is reduced. Because in real life when you jump into leaves, it absorbs the fall. maybe 5-6 blocks?

You probably wouldn't be placing the leaf piles anywhere on your own, just gathering them to craft into a block (which is supposed to be about the same as a normal leaf block, just as a building material), and the likelihood that there just happens to be a pile of fallen leaves at the bottom of your ledge is fairly low.

I'm almost 100% positive that this have been suggested before but i'll suggest it again anyways
I like the idea, however having leaves coating the ground seems a bit messy to me. Having to clear the ground of leaves every time one clears a forest could be time consuming as well. I don't see why leaves couldn't just drop individually as an item. No tool would be needed to pick them up and the amount of saplings dropped could decrease to account for the new item. Leaf blocks could be created with either four or nine leaves. depending on how high the drop rate is. If one wanted to coat the ground in leaves for aesthetics they could create half blocks of leaves much like what one does with stone.
I like the idea of using it as compost. It would increase the amount of wheat you get when you fertilize it with compost.
You would get compost by using some sort of recycling bin. Maybe built like this. [] []
and you would place the leaves and over time it would become compost. This could also work with food, and the time it should take to make about half a stack (32) should be one minecraft day.

I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to death, Nor known to life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, Unlimited Blade Works

Burn them. That's what I did until they brought back leaf decay. Turn the whole forest into a Vietnam warzone.

I think this would work. And it won't be hard to program, simply take the programming of snow and give it to leaves. Snow layers replaced by leaf layers, Snowballs replaced by leaves, Snow block replaced by leaf block.
Also, leaves over time could become brown. When brown they won't drop leaves, and after a while will disappear.
Finally, minecraft forests will be REALISTIC! No more silly grass floor in forests!
thought of something i think some one metioned they only spawn under leaf blocks how about they only spawn under a natural trees leafs and once they get raked (or shoveled) they can fall back down after about two mc days or less (dont want it to be abused or over powerd) and if the leafs ontop of the fallen leaves (so the tree) gets destoyed the leafs (on the ground) do also so when your clearing land you dont have to rake up every leaf i find that annoying when i live near a snow biome.
[] [] < if this block is destoyed
[] []
[] [] does not work other way around
[] [] < so is the leafs on this one
EDIT: oh and i got another idea if you (or any other mob) walk on a leaf block (from tree) thats two blocks or higher in the air automaticly a leaf falls to ground or or anything
[] [] <-- leaves are now on ground before= after
THANK GOD FOR SMILIES!!
I do like this idea! This would add a lot of different possibilities and even allow for a distinguishing characteristic between Forests and Woods! Forests would have a layer of leaves on the ground, where woods would not.

True, fire fixes everything :biggrin.gif:

They asked me how well I understood theoretical physics. I told them I had a theoretical degree in physics. They said welcome aboard.
