I think, that Survival Mode should be more about surviving and less about "Digging 1x1x3 hole and covering the top up too survive the night" kind of thing, so I have some suggestions on how to improve the survival aspect of the game. Well here they are:
There should be an "Intense" mode. Zombies can break through blocks at half the rate as if you were using your hands to break it. Zombies break glass at a rate of 1 glass block per 5 seconds (Just too make it fair for those glass houses).
Skeletons can break glass by shooting it (It will break the glass only to get to you) at a rate of 1 glass per 3 arrows. They can also break Wooden Doors at a rate of 30 arrows per broken door. They cannot break Iron Doors, making them have more of a use.
Spiders can shoot sticky webs on the floor around your house/base/hole. This will slow you down to as if you were swimming in water. They can only shoot these webs after they had "eaten" some wool. This can be placed wool, or wool from a sheep. it can shoot webs on 3 blocks for each wool it has eaten.
Creepers can turn sand into a piece of dynamite ( looks like TNT except says DYN on it). Dynamite is 1/8 the damage of TNT. Also, when the sand is turned into dynamite, it is auto-manically activated. Due to the overpoweredness of this ability, a creeper will only do this 1/5 of the time. And if it does this, the creeper dies too (But no drop). Dynamite can break anything weaker than coal. This includes stone, dirt, glass, sand, gravel, etc.
Spider Jockeys can break through Wooden and Iron Doors. Wooden Door = 25 shots to break while the Iron Door = 70 shots too break. They can also shoot webs WITHOUT eating wool, but the web can only be shot 15 times, and it only slows you down 25%.
Slimes can go through walls, but it can only be 1 layer thick and it will split into smaller slimes when done. Small Slimes cannot do this.
NOTES: The webs dissapear when the sun comes up. Zombies can't break doors. Dynamite can be crafted as shown:
Dynamite destroys things within a 3x3x2 radius that are weaker than coal.
Quick Summary (For all you people who don't like reading a lot):
1. On Intense mode, Zombies can break through blocks
2. Skeletons can only break through wooden doors with 30 shots.
3. Spiders shoot webs down after "eating" wool. It slows you down a bit.
4. Creepers change sand to Dynamite 1/5 of the time. They sacrifice them selfs doing this.
5. Spider Jockeys shoot webs down without eating wool, but only 15 times and can break through Wooden and Iron Doors. Wooden = 25 Iron = 70.
6. Slimes can go through 1 layer thick walls, but in the process they split into smaller slimes. Small Slimes can't do this.
Please modify as you wish, and let me know what you think! Thanks!
Already suggested. There are other "hardcore modes" that others have suggested that include every suggestion you said. Nazi Zombie-like Gameplay? Check. Skeletons that shoot out windows? Check.
