I have been looking at the posts involving natural disasters, but when it comes to meteors it's this horrible event with no good outcome except (if it doesn't hit your base) a nice crater somewhere. It occurred to me that in reality meteors are part of the reason we have the amount of resources we do (not know as a fact, but comets brought our water so it's a thought!)
When a meteor would strike it could scatter say 25% of the blocks it fell with (the rest being "vaporized"). These blocks would have the chance do bring with them iron (a high probability, as many meteors are composed of iron), gold, diamond, or possibly an element known as Iridium. Iridium is extremely rare to find on the earth and the only "high" concentration is a the KT boundary which is where the meteor killed the dinasaurs theory came from. Iridium in reality dosent have much of a practical use when it comes to minecraft except a possible use with redstone as it is used in spark plugs, and other electric processes. It would be the rarest substance in the meteors (and in the world being as rare as lapis lazuli, and would take on the appearance similar to other ores but the colored part would be silver.
This post is simply an addition to the meteor posts, and more specifically to have a pro to the worst natural disaster.

To my knowledge, it didn't bring water. It brought life. Supposedly a comet had life on it, and it hit a planet, giving it life. That's pretty much what I know.
Iridium was already suggested, but it involved invincible tools, a diamond radar and a space portal, which was beyond stupid. This one is marginally reasonable, although not very well expanded on. I like it.

and that is spore in a nutshell.
although its actually called panspermia.
why not use iridium to make pens, which in the future updates could be used to write inside of book blocks,in real life we use iridium as pen tips.so it makes sense to have pens use iridium

I've heard that as well... now we know how you and mobs got on minecraft?

Thanks' for telling me about the pens, as I didn't know that. This could be a good way or writing into books, although a quill and ink would be easier.
Maybe the pen could last longer then a quill and ink?

I want some natural disasters they sound cool cause it coudl hapen at night then you coudl watch it land but it shoudl also cause fires since meteors are usally flaming and very hot when they land and are flying though the sky
maybe they could make like a lava pull if they hit stone giving you a cheap way to colect lava I dont know maybe randomly spawning an alein monster that eats you....

Causing fires was a thought, but an alien monster is a bit over the top.

I liked spore, if your meaning to say you didn't.[/quote]
oh no, i quite enjoyed spore (besides being screwed because of the 3 installation limit) i was just comparing your comment to the beginning of spore, which in retrospect is the exact same thing.
kira: i guess iridium could have multiple uses, i was just trying to keep it simple and from it turning into being.

OMG IRIDUM LAZERSS!!!
I remember that beginning fondly. I wish they would make Spore 2, but this is getting off topic.
