Wow you come off REALLY irritable and defensive in critiquing my critique : / Sorry if offended you by not thinking every single idea listed here was 100% perfect.
Also, I guess my main concern with the Midas Tear is that it seems like regardless how hard it is to obtain, it WILL be inevitably obtained and once that happens, mining gold in the overworld is 100% worthless. This aspect of the game would completely nullify another aspect of the game.
Also *fighting* in minecraft isn't exactly an exercise in anything but preparedness. When someone enters the nether with a full set of diamond armor and over 2 dozen stacks of arrows, they can lay down enough suppressing fire to render all mobs trivial (with the exception of Ghasts since they attack from beyond your range, though the arrow fire does make a pretty good shield against their fireballs, heh) I guess my point is that everything WILL eventually be obtained, and infinite hassle free gold just seems to good in my mind *shrug*
And also again, I didn't realize the idea was to make the Nether completely habitable without ever returning to the overworld, so, I guess I'm sorry? *shrug*
Grey and I come off that way, but it's only because we're ready to defend every idea, and a lot of the things you've mentioned were brought up before.
It is a HUGE idea, and some things can pass people. But it's better we tell you bluntly what's wrong with your critique than leave you hanging. It's not like you're going to read all 53 pages before you post, and we know that.
Just don't expect us to be happy we're explaining something for the 30th time.
*edit*
Oh you edited your post.
Okay so... you dislike Midas Tears because it ruins the point of hunting for gold.
I assume you dislike Skeleton spawners as well then because that completely removes the need to build arrows once you find and make a trap of one.
Or how about Lava Flows hitting water flows? I know tons of people who've made infinite cobble generators.
Lava can be found quickly and will make a "template material" generator relatively easily. No more need to flatten entire continents for that replica of the Battlestar Galactica. Just spend a few hours infront of the farm.
A Skeleton spawner, while fairly rare, will eventually be found and WILL remove all need to make arrows ever again afterwards. Why hunt chickens, mine flint (the hard way), and grow sticks when you can just sit infront of your spawner trap?
Midas Tears, being incredibly rare and in a newer harder Nether, will create a source of easily accessible gold (but a 1-to-1 give-get ratio).
Point being there's ALREADY farms in game that make previous portions pointless. I honestly don't think that the rarity of the Tears is outweighed by the usefulness.
And I'd like to see you try to take on a Troll or two, or even a Ghast with that get up. We've specifically tailored some mobs to take out people like you who think that what works in the Overworld will work in the New Nether.
And I really REALLY should put this in the OP... This is a companion thread to Grey's Aether suggestion.
There's 3 ways to survive the Overworld.
Fight, Flight, and Forge.
It's emphasis is greatly leaning towards the third. Build a house to stay the night.
The Aether is greatly leaning towards the second. Where the terrain is both your enemy and your ally.
The New Nether is meant to lean towards the first. Where you have to become vicious and kill things before they kill you.
Okay, I've been familiarizing myself with some of the already discussed content but as you said, 50 some pages is quite a bit to go through.
I have every possible farm constructed in my main vanilla minecraft world, so I see your point about it not being a big deal, from that perspective, to have a gold farm. I guess I just figured gold should be a valuable and somewhat rare material but oh well.
Other than that I think everything in this list is pretty awesome, and I'll definitively be following the thread and voicing my opinions, take 'em or leave 'em, as I know you will. :wink.gif:
FANTASTIC ... but!!! dont you think this shouldnt be the actual nether i mean some people just want to build and adventure but these monsters are very over powered in found near each other like creepers and skeletons but this is like brands and ghasts the would easily murder you
It looks nice, but I think it's a "little" too complicated. Truthfully, I would remove all weapons and materials added, cut the number of mobs in half, and remove the plants. I would only keep the extra terrain generations and a few of the mobs, to keep it from becoming WAY too overcomplicating.
(Also, the crafting recipe for glowsand is incorrect because it is currently in use already to make glowstone.)

Nope. Cause this is a companion thread to the Aether.
The Overworld is made for those who want to BUILD. It's relatively danger free, with cycles of peace and danger.
The Aether is constantly dangerous but is a MASSIVE world that'd be incredible to EXPLORE.
And the New Nether is very combat oriented so that those who prefer to BATTLE can have their fill.
All three realms aren't made to cater to all three styles of gameplay.

I've made my comments on the Glowstone already, and I guess I'll have to update the OP with them.
And you realize that your removals just brought the New Nether back to how the Nether currently is? No new weapons or items, +1~2 mobs, and no Darkwood/Deadbrush.
You have no idea what we're going for here, and seem to be fully content with the Nether as it currently is.
I'm not to big on polls, they tend to clutter the top of a thread.
And I worked with Grey on the preliminary balancing for the mini-tools. He and yofreke have been working on a mod for it for a while now. The "hand versions" of all tools weren't made on a tier by tier basis, but as a global rule (Half as useful, half as powerful, extra abilities).
7) No, and no. Their form is based on real world 'shrooms, and their name a play on MUSHRoom.
While the name can stay, I dislike the look of the mushrooms. I may not be able to do better, but the last time I checked, they looked more like bright speckled potatoes than hellish fungi.
How do you make the pictures for the blocks that aren't in the game?
Retextures of existing blocks, mods, or model editing programs.
The nether as you described it is great. Although, the Midas Tears fluid is still overpowered (it says that you can get gold ore from regenerative items, meaning that throwing any of a number of easily obtainable foods such as porkchops (It is even possible to make an automatic factory for porkchops, so that is like a gold factory), mushroom soup (with pistons a mushroom factory is also possible), and fish to get far too much gold. I think iron for gold isn't too overpowered a tradeoff, but food for gold is.
i love the idea (mainly midas tears, would look great in the gold rooms i make in my castles), i was reading a few pages back and you said something about the modders on aether have changed too much, i really dont know what you mean its great.
oh and something to add onto midas tears, when placed by the player (not naturlly spawned) any mob that touch the tears for 10 seconds turn into a placable gold statue
I like this, but with the fright bulbs, in the penta or w/e it's called. It simply can't have anything to do with religion, and I dont think notch would allow it. When you said fright bulbs, I thought of a mushroom like thing, I think it should be like a red and yellow mushroom, that could trick players.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
They haven't been forgotten, but my bet is that since it's summer, our lives have started to take a little bit of precedence.

Because everything that's currently in Minecraft came in one release...
>_>
You can stagger this update and it'd be fine.
