I found the Nether too easy because even if you are being attacked by 5> ghasts, you can still easily kill them and zombiepigmen are harmless as long as you don't harm them. I like how this make the Nether actually dangerous. I also like how the Aether is dangerous without much enemies but with passive dangers.
I love everything about this thread. Weather idea: Earthquakes should happen very rarely on the overworld, lasting like 5 seconds. Nothing happens other than the screen shaking. On the other hand, in the nether, netherrack falls from the ceiling while the overworld earthquake is in progress. The whole ceiling wouldn't fall, just like 2 or 3 blocks
Tunnel mites. ALL OF MY NIGHTMARES. Also, has anyone suggested acid rain yet?
Yes, and along with Ash Thermals, it's pretty much settled as being the weather that we'll go with. The only issue is hashing out the details of the acid. Right now the idea is that acid rain will destroy any non-nether block except for glass and obsidian.(possibly a few other exceptions) and that it can form shallow pools of acid (single panel height) that can only be carried in a gold bucket, and can destroy a number of blocks straight down(falling with it) similar to how midas tears destroys blocks to the side.
About Acid Rain; isn't that a little bit, I dunno, too dangerous? I mean, depending on the length of the storm that might destroy someone's entire cobblestone or whatever fortress. I can accept having to put some different blocks in different places to avoid corruption, but forcing us to put Soul Sand or Netherrack or Glass (which might I add is quite easily destroyed by Ghasts) or something on our roofs is generally a bad idea. It's easy enough to do that it doesn't provide much of a challenge anyway, but it does limit our building in the Nether. I know that building isn't the Nether's main focus, but still, some people are going to want to build huge evil looking castles in a hellish dimension WITHOUT losing all the challenge of the game by putting it on peaceful.
it's a thought. Grimhounds might make tolerable mounts.(they're supposed to be larger than regular wolves, which should be enough) Otherwise I'd be more likely to go with using Firehazurd's Harpy as the closest thing the Nether gets to a mount.
It just means your roofs are going to be different.
Just like how Corruption means your floors are going to be different.
Also, Cobble will NEVER be a good building tool in the Nether so long as I'm in control of this thread.
I absolutely HATE the idea that cobblestone can survive a Ghast blast and people just take their portable mountain (2 billion stacks of cobble) into the Nether and never have to worry again.
Yeah, but honestly, you're giving us a lot more choice in floors than you are with ceilings; with floors it's either NO COBBLESTONE OR STONE or build on a patch of Soul Sand. With this you're forcing us to make our roofs out of Glass, Obsidian or a Nether material.
And yeah, that's why I said 'or whatever'. I acknowledge that cobblestone or stone aren't likely going to be used ever at all in the Nether.
Or you just use Sm.Ash to coat the tops of your buildings to protect them from the acid. While I don't think ash panels should form on the ceiling, I think they make perfect sense for a a Sm.Ash to place a panel when used on a block.
*Facepalm* The Ghast IS the Nether equivalent of the Aerwhale, at least in terms of scale. Or more accurately, the Aerwhale is the Aether equivalent of the Ghast.

That... huh. That actually works. 'Kay then.
Sniggy does have a point though; even if Ghasts are big, they don't feel like it. It probably has something to do with the fact that they are everywhere (which I guess this would change, but still) and also they're usually far away enough that you don't really even realize it. A huge, hulking monster that actually challenges you would really be nice. Maybe you could make the Troll/Ogre/whatever bigger, or just give him a bigger brother or something, but yeah.
You should replace the pentagram on the one block to something with a less religious connotation, because Notch says no to religion in Minecraft.
Besides that I still love this idea.
No. I left crosses on the shields in Extended 2x2 crafting too. It's supposed to have vaguely occult overtones to this particular block; It blows up if you step on it.
and it has plenty of other uses besides religious connotations besides. I'm not compromising a perfectly functional design just because people are feeling a little uncomfortable, especially since they're supposed to be feeling a little uncomfortable.
I dont know when this was made so im not going to be anoyed but when on the soul glass tools when you said it go as fast as wood/gold(witchever one is slower) i cuckled a little because gold goes really fast as of since whenever wood was made to 64 uses insted of 32 and gold stayed at 32 but its speed was increated greatly.

Isn't it supposed to be a plant? Maybe you could get creative and try to make it have leafs sprouting up in that shape?
Edit: Oh, they are supposed to be leafs. What is the ring around the leafs supposed to be?

love it,except will the glowstone sand be added? because i know notch said he couldnt make moving light (i know theres a mod for it, but will notch ever attempt?). i guess you could make it light up when it stops moving. i dunno. im just pointing this out

Yeah, I'd be OK with the Fright Bulbs if the ring was left out; that way it's slightly less explicit.
