Absolutely amazing! I was a bit discouraged by some of your ideas at first, but after reading the post you seem to have a way to counteract every downside leaving only good ideas I LIKE IT!
It would also be kind of funny if the monster that came from the bed was an angry zombiepigman.
No. Random Monsters from whatever makes sense for the area you're in. The bed is just made from Nether materials, it's not made of portal blocks or anything. As for enemies in the Nether, you'd be more likely to get a glutton or a Brand or something. In some ways it could be a very effective strategy, since you could catch those mobs in close quarters. Unfortunately you could also end up with a Troll or a Ghast or something.
Also, the Eternal Bed should never move your spawn (then again, I don't think the regular bed should either)
I just thought of this but the terrain png would need to be expanded if the Aether and New Nether were implemented.
There are already mods that do that, and Notch needs to expands the Terrain and Item.pngs for the purpose of supporting mods properly (Extended 2x2 alone already pushes the item IDs beyond its limits)

i agree and disagree. the nether is a baren wasteland right now, but with all that itl be to lively. about 1/2 or 1/3 of that stuff in there would be fine

I like the new salamander and troll mobs, but the rest of it seems like it would make the Nether too... busy? I think the fact thats its dark and creepy and you never know when you'll run into pigmen is the best part of it.
You both keep on treating it like all the mobs getting added would be added on top of regular spawn rates and at the same amount. All spawn rates can(and SHOULD) be dropped down to ensure that it doesn't get too crowded, otherwise it would be way too likely for enemies to be battling each other and never have a chance for you to fight them.
If anything it would lower your chances of running into Pigmen, and be far more likely to get one of the more openly aggresive mobs instead.

hmm... how about with gloomwood, you could make a gloombench, wich is 6/6 instead of 3/3.
Not even the slightest chance. A) why would you build a crafting bench out of something that makes it hard to see? :cool.gif: how would that make your crafting grid bigger? and C) a larger crafting grid is USELESS. I have stated this many times and will continue to state this: ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING that has any business being in Minecraft can be crafted on the 3x3 grid that already exists. Larger grids are just for people who are sloppy and uncreative about coming up with recipes for things.

I like everything except the new plants (and mudkipz P:). IMO nether has enough wildlife with mushrooms and any trees/plantation would ruin it. Also salamander looks too bright-colored, maybe a red or brown color would match better.
As for weather, heat waves that makes %50~ of the netherrack burning would be interesting to see. You wander around, then hear 100's of creepers hissing and see the wave of flames coming closer at you.
Or maybe earthquakes that create random tiny explosions (0.2 to 1.0 scaled) and make more lava fall from ceiling of nether (and in some cases, permanent lava streams falling through ceiling to deep holes to prevent lava floods, perhaps?)
And my personal favourite, a "blister" that makes all redstone currents on loaded chunks go on/off REALLY randomly (so random that one of two connected redstone wires could be power with a full charge of 15 power level while other is completely uncharged P:) and make maximum light level 10 AND reduce light level everywhere by 2 (light level reduction is applied before maximum light level)
Thats what ive got for now...
(I also got some spooky event ideas, gimme heads up if you are ready for a letter wall of text )

First of all.... this whole idea is probably the best and most epic things I've ever seen. I have two suggestions; make the brand rideable and make the salamnder trainable. The brand being ridable would greatly improve gameplay because of the multi-surface transportation, and cool attack styles. The salamander because it is simply a useful helper.

A) The brand will set itself on fire just to be able to hurt you better. I highly doubt it will take at all kindly to being ridden
:cool.gif: I see no possible useful function Salamanders could serve.

Keep in mind these are not your typical plants. The Gloomtrees suck light out of the surrounding air, and Fright Bulbs will explode if you step on their leaves. Mushraves glow, and may or may not also be poisonous.
Also salamander looks too bright-colored, maybe a red or brown color would match better.
Lava is bright too, it makes sense that something that swims in lava would be colored to match. Also, you're seeing it in full lighting, not in the lighting of the Nether.

It's a thought. all you'd have to do is set a bunch of netherrack on fire in a row and the Netherrack itself would handle the rest.
Or maybe earthquakes that create random tiny explosions (0.2 to 1.0 scaled) and make more lava fall from ceiling of nether (and in some cases, permanent lava streams falling through ceiling to deep holes to prevent lava floods, perhaps?)
too destructive. Read back a few posts and you'll see what teh current thoughts are on Earthquakes.

Redstone isn't natural to the Nether. It's a thought, but it seems kinda weird that you'd have something like that which would only be observable by bringing it in. Still, it could be rather neat if there was a nether effect that could randomly activate anything that can be activated by redstone, unless it was placed on top of Soul Sand or something.

Similar idea: If salamanders don't completely submerge themselves in lava, why not make them rideable? It would be about as useful as riding a pig, albeit allowing you to traverse lava, and maybe there could be an achievement related to it?
Salamanders could gain speed if ridden over time (like, after riding it for about 20 seconds, it goes faster than the player, useful for traveling large open stretches when there are ghasts above you), and they could possibly shed their skin every couple of days when tamed?
Or perhaps a "fragile" skin, which, when crafted with either one above the other or 9 in the crafting grid, would make Asbestoskin. Depends on how overpowered or underpowered you think it is.
I see no reason why a brand shouldn't be rideable; it does not expressly attack the player, so if we were to help it in it's fights against others... I think it would be possible, espesially since these things seem pretty intelligent, so they should be able to recognize an ally when they see one. Besides, riding such a creatures entails a whole new game mechanic. Of course you'd need a very specialized saddle- perhaps one made of Asbestoskin.
for weather id like to see it raining, but the rain sprite is replaced by the fire sparks image, so it looks like it is raining fire. it could sometimes make fires on the ground, randomly.
i thin something like an earthquake effect ..like at random times the ground shakes and fault lines appear. Also, sinkholes and other disasters would be cool.

Because they do, or will, or would, whichever tense you feel is appropriate.

raining dust. lots and lots of dust
You're out of luck. Rain is being replaced with Acid Rain.

Read the post from this page and the previous page. The issue of earthquakes has been discussed and the conclusion is that they should NOT do excessive map damage or terrain alteration. Fissures have already been proposed as a natural biome of the Nether, theoretically having formed from an earthquake, bu will not actively form on map chunks that have already been loaded.
My idea: Small patches of certain biomes will develop a "Blight Storm". What this does is slowly drain the player's health, and items will actually degrade 4x faster than if it were in the Overworld. Plants and saplings also disappear twice as fast as it would in normal blight. If you stay to long in the area, you will be poisoned for a certain amount of after exiting, but can be quickly healed with the use of an antidote of some sort.
it'd look almost like normal air, but slightly redder/browner, and makes a small, unique noise when approached.
Basically: A worse version of normal Blight.
Would this be too hard to code? I don't know anything about coding. :tongue.gif:

It probably wouldn't be that difficult, but the stuff you're suggesting either is already covered by Acid rain, or goes way beyond what is reasonable for weather to do, even for the Nether.
Okay, I have one last idea, after this I'll give up so just bear with me for the being. a mob has been beaten near to death ( by the player or otherwise is immaterial) and the player is given the chance to revive it with health shards. Health shards can only be found in the aether, so this would be significantly harder to do than normal. Anyways once the creature is revived, it will become nuetral towards the player. This will allow the player to continue helping it (I. E. giving it food etc.) after a while the creature will become friendly, and depending upon the mob, also ridable. Please at least give this a little thought, as it works outside of just brands.
It works really well, except that it should only work if the mob hasn't been injured by the player at all. Unfortunately it's just not what the Nether is about. We haven't even officially included the Grimhounds in the opening post yet due to the need to make the idea more comprehensive on how to AVOID making them proper allies. (actually I'm leaning towards sabertooth lions for this instead, giving the "alpha-leader" a mane would be an easy visual to do)

Frankly, Grey, it's your thread. I personally think the positives out way the negatives, and it certainly ties in some loose end nicely but, in the end, if you don't like it, it's up to you. I'll say no more on the subject.
LOL. It's sabata's thread. I'm basically the consultant for it. I probably have the lion's share of ideas at this point, but Sabata is still generally providing the direction of the ideas.
I suppose in some ways it might be like the Producer-Director relationship. I'm the one doing the main interaction with the ideas, and getting things to work so it looks good, but sabata provided the main push of "this needs to exist" and ultimately has final say on what gets nixed or not.
Maybe... lava-rain? It'd be a bit more rare than rain in the Overworld and would hurt you by half a heart every 5 seconds? Maybe it could also catch regular wood on fire, but not Grimwood or anything else. I know nothing about coding, sooo, not sure how hard it would be to implement. :3

Slight modification: Chunks of molten lava fall out of the sky. If they hit, 2 hearts damage. Anything they hit that's flammable gets set on fire. However, it is possible to avoid them. (There won't be too many falling at once.)
