I love how you used BAMZOOKi for the models :smile.gif:
Bawhodi for what models? I don't use any modeling program. I do all of my mockup art via photoshopping existing screenshots and Minepedia images. the 3d models for the various mobs were done by Firehazurd, Rhinoserocity and Mr. Torb, and I'm pretty sure they used either 3dmax or blender.

Oh, by the way, what does it do with blood gem tools? I suggest it steals them, destroys the handles and keeps the blood gems. That seems to be the best solution.
No, just leave them alone. Maybe drain some durability off of them or something.
Also, if you're vetoing the blood drop suggestion, what do they drop when they don't have any blood gems?
They wouldn't drop anything.

About the Frightbulb, having something with such striking resemblance to pentagram might not be such a good idea in an E-E10 game like Minecraft. It would probably be fine if you removed the circle surrounding it, though...
Pentagrams aren't solely satanic, and I don't recall seeing ANY ESRB rating on Minecraft.

1) In the Nether Dungeons, the Mob Spawner should be in a big room surrounded by Soul Sand, to make it harder to destroy.
That wouldn't actually make it harder to destroy at all, and that's not how the Nether Dungeons work.
2) Allow the player to use Gloomwood to craft Ice Arrows.
I can't make any sense of your recipe. If I WAS going to craft Gloomwood arrows, the design would be:
[>>-i>] =Gloomshard
[>>-i>] ]" title="-<->" />
But I don't see the need for it. You can already throw snowballs for a similar effect, but without all the features that would make it overpowered.
Quote from Themastercutter »
A better idea might be disease, you could have a slowing effect similar to soul sand or you could just turn the block directly under the PC into SS, but keep the skin. Another disease would weaken your damage resistance by lowering the amount of armor to a negative amount. Finally, the PCs inventory could be filled with an undroppable, implacable block so he can't collect anything.
That would be even worse than the poison stuff. Also, turning the block the player is on to soul sand, but keeping the skin the same would be about 100x more complicated than just having an effect that slows the player directly.
Quote from RotomGuy »
Hellflyer would come in on you- stealing things of you in this order: 1) Blood Drops
2) Blood Gems 3) Blood Tools
4) Health
There aren't going to be blood drops, and the tools aren't going to be stolen. The most that will happen is that they take a hit to the durability when the Hemogoblin hits you. If you don't have any Bloodgems, then it'll damage you directly (but will not generate a blood gem from doing this)
BTW, I made a mock model that's absolutely crap to show a basic image of it.
Forgot the legs... this is only a placeholder. We should get someone like FireHazurd to make the real model.
It looks like a Deku Scrub.

you renamed soul-sand stiky soul sand. does that mean that there will be other veriatys?
pleas say yes
I didn't rename Soul Sand to Sticky Soul Sand. It's still just called Soul Sand, the "sticky" is just to let people know that it has sticky properties now, instead of only slowing properties. I suppose I should get Sabata to remove all the sticky mentions. It's not like I added anything to Netherrack to show that fire acts different on it now.
Frankly, I'd change a Grimmhound into a different creature. Something that isn't canine.
There's already a wolf in the overworld, so maybe a completely different kind of animal.
Mayhpas..a killer rabbit?
*brings forth the holy Hand Grenade of Antioch*
Wolves can't travel portals, and what if you need a trusty dog by your side if your gettin' pissed of by something?
ok so have a hellcat.
it could have all the curent propertys of a grimhound and would add a creative look.
after all the nether should be difrent and a dog on each side is redundant.
p.s. i like cats
Interesting point. I have an idea: if my Falcon idea (flying friendly mob; attacks things shot by arrows) got added to the overworld, then maybe the Nether would only have a ground based friendly (the Hellhound/cat) that had more abilities than the wolf, and the Aether would only have a tamable flying mob with more abilities than the Falcon?
Grey, can I just ask for some more clarification over the Hemogoblin and blood-gem-tools discussion. I'm sure you must have a good reason for vetoing it, but I can't see what it is. Could you explain?
It would just be far more effort vs benefit it would bring to the concept to balance out what tools would be affected and how long it would take. Blood Gem Tools really don't offer that much advantage over diamond tools except for in the Nether. If Blood Gem tools had that weakness where they could be broken or stolen by this single annoying mob, then they'd be all but useless.
Also, the idea of deliberately allowing the Hemogoblin to rip your tool down to blood gems to get a bran new item out of the deal is cool, but I don't think Hemogoblins should ever drop more than a single blood gem. Heck, no other mob in the game drops more than a single blood gem. The Hemogoblin should just grab a single blood gem, and once it has the blood gem, it tries to book it out of the area to safety. This also makes it harder for the player to get the blood gem from the Hemogoblin, which is the whole point - making a less dangerous, but still frustratingly difficult method for the player to have access to the blood gems.

Glowstone torches would be useful if deeper seas were implemented.
Glowstone Lamps, not torches. It's closer to the size of a sign or a fencepost than a torch.
Still concerned some of the ideas here could be unbalancing. While I don't (strictly speaking) need it, I would like to ask your permission to make my own version of this concept. Perhaps we could do a mutual endorsement? ("Think these ideas are too much/not enough? Check out the alternate thread HERE!")
In the meantime, and in the interest of showing what I consider to be fair, I'd like to offer a suggestion. I offer this both as a possibility for the current discussion and as a proposed alternative to Midas Tears, which I am not alone in thinking have too much griefing potential.
Tar/Pitch Dark as night, thick as thieves, stickier than a spider's web, and above all - it burns! Is there any substance which can be said to embody what the Nether is more than the foul essence of the deep earth that is Pitch? Do you truly wish to find out? Properties: Pitch is a slow flowing liquid which occurs in the Nether in natural pools called "tar pits". If exposed to a spark, the top of a pool of Pitch will burn, however, the fire does not spread to adjacent tiles. (In this way, Pitch adopts the former behavior of Netherrack.) Being submerged in Pitch greatly reduces a character's speed, though they can still jump or "swim" in it. If completely submerged a player will cease burning (and have an air meter as if underwater), but the heat and density of Pitch poses an even greater danger, and the player or mob who falls into a tar pit will slowly lose health from its smothering embrace even before their air runs out (taking damage at half the rate of Lava). Use: To use Pitch, you'll need a bucket. A bucket made of Gold, to be exact. Why? Because if you use an Iron one, the Pitch would stick to it making it impossible to get it out (meaning it won't work). For some reason, Gold is a good substitute for Teflon, and Pitch won't stick to it. Once you have your precious bucket of murk, there are a couple things you can make with it.
First and foremost, a bucket of pitch with a Gloomshard over it is the perfect recipe for some Pitch torches. They're exactly one light level dimmer than Coal torches, but (if goes through with it) they'll take twice as long to burn out...and it makes more of them.
Second, it can be mixed with Gravel to make a useful building material called "Asphaltum". More on that later.
Finally, if placed in a furnace, the slow-burning Pitch will last long enough to smelt 150 blocks, 50% more than Lava...and you can even get the bucket back.
Interactions: Pitch will exhibit different behaviors when it comes into contact with different liquids.
Lava: When flowing Pitch comes into contact with Lava of any kind, it will burn briefly before being destroyed (as though it were wood). If possible, lava will then flow into the vacated space. However, if Lava comes into contact with a Pitch source block, it will bake the block, producing a block of Asphaltum.
Water: You know the saying "Oil and water don't mix", right? Well it's true. When a Water block and a Pitch block meet, the two treat one another as solid, progressing no further in that direction. Sadly, unlike some other non-mixing oils, Pitch cannot be used to make a tasty dressing for salads.
Milk: Don't cry. If ever spilled Milk comes into contact with Pitch, it will destroy and replace any blocks of Milk that the Pitch comes into contact with.
So, what about that "Asphaltum" stuff? If you're thinking it sounds like Latin for "Asphalt" you'd be right! (I bet you didn't know asphalt was so old, did you?) As stated above, Asphaltum is what you get if Pitch is mixed with Gravel or baked by Lava. Asphaltum Hard and resilient, easy to produce, and fireproof (even against Ghast attack). Asphaltum was first discovered by the Pigmen, who learned the secret of its manufacture. It is said their entire civilization was built from this strange stone. Properties: Asphaltum is a solid, non-transparent block, suitable for use in construction. At forty blast resistance, it is slightly harder to destroy than most blocks. It occurs naturally where there are Lava pools and Pitch tar pits next to one another. The correct tool to harvest it is a pick, and yes, it does stack. Use: Obtaining blocks of Asphaltum requires either crafting a block of Gravel with a bucket of Pitch to yield two blocks, or harvesting natural formations with a pick. Due to its composition, Wood, Iron, and Diamond tools are unsuited to harvest it. After it has been obtained, Asphaltum blocks may be used in construction as they are, or processed into slabs (same recipe as for other materials).
On a side note...
Am I the only one puzzled by the idea of Trolls in the Nether? To me, these belong on the surface, waiting to harass gruff goats. Maybe it's just my background in D&D talking, but to me Trolls are supposed to hate fire, which is their weakness. Besides which, even out of the house that Gygax built, Trolls have an association to the earth and stones. It seems like they should be up on the surface where such things exist. *shrug*
A discussion on the Aether thread suggested the Nether should maybe provide a single armor set... how does an Asbestoskin suit that provides as much protection as Leather but makes you fireproof/lavaproof sound?
I love the pitch idea. I think you've wrong about midas tears (after all, it's no less griefer proof than lava) so I don't see why we couldn't have both. I'm not so sure about the asphalt, though. Best to wait for Grey's opinion on that.
PS. What do you use for the images? I can never get the depth right.
I just used Gimp to do mockups from wiki images. As for the asphalt, yeah, I thought that one might raise a few eyebrows. Gravel needs to be more useful though, and I really did do my research. Forms of asphalt have been used around the world for centuries.
G** D***** NAPA! Learn more from the National Asphalt Pavement Association here. (Fun fact; Our word "asphalt" actually comes from Ancient Greek! They called the stuff “asphaltos”, which means (according to NAPA) “secure”.)
Okay read it all and essentially Pitch is what Tears were before we added the corrosiveness.
I had to ADD the horizontal only corrosiveness to get it in the OP, as without it it's not much different than a faster, farther flowing Lava.
I don't mind the idea of Asphalt, nor the intention to give Gravel more uses, but I can't really get behind the Pitch.
(Pretty sure Grey will say the same).
Also as Sniggy said, it's no less griefing than Lava currently is. Plus there's Deadbrush put in specifically to counter the flows of such liquids.
Definitely like a lot of the ideas for the new nether, while there are a few I don't care too much for.
I find much of the plant life and corruption aspects to be interesting.
I really like the portal compass, tho I might suggest that instead of the portal you came through that it simply points to the nearest nether portal.
I also love the glutton, for some reason it just works on so many lvls. On a semi related side note ... I do not think I would eat any Icecream that came out of a Furnace(Freezer).
When I think of a glowstone torch, for some reason all I can picture is something that is crafted just like the redstone torch (but with glowstone) and gives off no light unless powered by redstone. In which case it gives off slightly more light than a normal torch..... but that could just be stemming from my desire to have workable lights in the game that I can turn on and off with the flip of a switch.

Pretty much. Really, the only true "griefing" aspect of Midas Tears would be the ability to turn diamond/iron/blood/raze tools and armor and other iron based items into gold tools and items, even while the player is holding them or wearing them. This could easily be balanced by just making it so only one item at a time is converted and it is roughly the same as catching on fire when you touch lava; it doesn't need to happen instantly.

I don't really mind Asphalt, but it makes no sense for that to be something that is native to the Nether. Also, I've already proposed that Soul Sand can be smelted into Soul Glass, which would have a blast resistance of 60, along with the ability to use levers/buttons/plates and redstone to change between being opaque and transparent, and also be able to be made into Soul Tools.
As for the permission... ask Grey.
What he does is up to him. We created this thread as a better alternative to the Nether Update, but at that point he's going to be competing with the Nether Updates thread (which we already had to struggle against despite it being DEAD) and also going to be competing with this thread, which is still actively running.

Go back to the opening post and read the description for the updated Glowstone Block.
I began to model the Acid Pod using a nifty new program called FMCModeler.
Keep in mind I just figured out how to use the program about five minutes ago, and this is nowhere near completed.
Here it is (brace yourself for a horrible excuse for a model)
As you can see, I've got a really basic sort of "lip" going around the edge of the pod. That selected box is going to one of four little fang protrusions that point towards the inside of the mouth. The texture of the inside will be similar to the Squid's mouth- lots and lots of teeth in a square area.
Remember the Acid Pod is, in looks and a bit in behavior, the child of these two creatures:
My questions are; what should be added? What should be improved (besides, you know, finishing the model and making a texture.) Please give me ideas- do you like the first picture's mandible-things? Should there be any other parts besides the four fangs and the body?
Look at those pictures (all three of them) and imagine three Dimetrodon-esque sails on its "back" (which will always be on a wall, anyway.) Does that work?
Midas Tears will also damage the player similar to being in Lava, but will not catch the player on fire nor does it count as fire damage. If the player dies while in Midas Tears, then all items will be dropped into the Midas Tears block, and items that can't be converted to gold will be destroyed as if in lava, and where the player falls, 2 Gold Blocks will be placed.(Gold Blocks will never replace a Midas Tears block)
Seems a little overpowered. This would be free gold, and in block form too. It shouldn't be this easy to get gold, even though a little easier wouldn't hurt.

You're right. This was originally posted back before gold had any functional value other than watches. Now that Gold has more USEFUL uses, that should pretty much be removed.
