Well, a lot of these ideas I like. Although there are too many new enemies. I love just having shootouts with ghasts, instead I'll be killed 27 times before I find one. Most things I like though, good job.

I didn't feel like making a good signature, so I just typed this up.
Approval of everything. The only specific criticism I can give right now is the uselesness of the emergency portal due to the way you can appear in a wall. There's no way players could have an accurate idea of where the Nether surface is compared to the overworld surface. Also, you spend most of your time underground, so unless you have parallel mines, it has a rather situational use.
I think this is cool, especially since Zurich left, and I like most of the ideas. My most prominent complaint is about appearance and naming.
Mushraves is a ridiculous name for a mushroom in the Nether. You complained a lot about how little was going into the appearance of the Nether in Zurich's thread, but this isn't a good display that you know what you're talking about. While they are useful to the end of make easy dye recipes, the original purple-orange-green Nethershrooms were a much better match for the feeling of the Nether. The same complaint goes towards the Netherraze tools. Zurich's original designs were just plain cooler and more fitting.
Looking forward to heckling you constructively.
(For those who haven't already seen, These are the original Nethershrooms and these were the basis for the Netherraze tools. Compare them with the ones in this thread and if you (dis)agree, please comment).
-Grimwood. I have seen this idea many times before, but I never liked it. Trees in the nether? COLD trees in the Nether? That doesn't even fit! I know people want to be able to make ice and stuff, but let notch improve biomes.
It seems logical, actually. Seeing as regular wood wouldn't survive in a place like the nether, plants would evolve to be cool.
Well, a lot of these ideas I like. Although there are too many new enemies. I love just having shootouts with ghasts, instead I'll be killed 27 times before I find one. Most things I like though, good job.
Why does everyone assume that all of these mobs spawn every 20 steps you take? I have each spawn listed for what size of clusters they spawn in, but absolutely NOTHING has been said about the frequency at which the spawns occur.

Yeah, but this one actually has ideas that have been thought out with each individual idea considered for how it would function as a part of a whole, complimenting the other aspects of the suggestion as well as the overall game, instead of just hurling random ideas at wall and seeing what sticks.

Things I don't like at all about this:
-Tools having different stats while in the nether. This is pointless. I'm against the whole idea of new minerals+tools, we don't need them at all.
The new materials bring a number of features to the table that are necessary for survival in the nether. By having the dual durability system in place, it allows the more powerful Nethertools to have a significant handicap in the area where those abilities would be particularly overpowered. In the nether, those "overpowered" abilities just bring you back up to par with all the horrors you are facing.
-Grimwood. I have seen this idea many times before, but I never liked it. Trees in the nether? COLD trees in the Nether? That doesn't even fit! I know people want to be able to make ice and stuff, but let notch improve biomes.
As someone has already explained, a warped tree that can grow in the Nether is going to need to be able to protect itself, hence it generates cold to stop fire and lava, which are a constant threat in the nether.
-Colored mushrooms. I would like to see another kind of mushroom in the nether, but those are just like dyed mushrooms. They stand out too much and we don't need another source of light.
I was never severely married to the Mushraves, but having the ability to create natural creepy ambiance is more important than you might realize. It's not as much a source of light as it is a source of Tint.
-Demon bones. Why not just bones? anyway, this idea is related to new tools, I don't like the whole thing.
I actually suggested the same thing.
-Emergency portal. I like how portals are the only way to enter and exit the nether. You gotta be prepared, emergency portals would just be too lazy. And also, who would want to waste 8 blocks of obsidian when you can just place a portal?
Because if you're getting hounded by Ghasts and Trolls and Netherwurms and such, you don't always have time to set up a portal and light it. The Emergency Portal is just that; for Emergencies.
-Midas tears. Pointless.
There'splenty of point to it. Namely, you'll need to be a lot more careful about riding minecarts around in lava, in case you accidentally run into midas Tears and your Minecart converts to a gold helmet, and all your beloved diamond and blood gem tools turn to useless gold tools. About the only good that might come from Midas tears is if Gold Tools are Enchantable.
-Netherraze. Like i said, I don't like the whole thing related to tools. And... why is it like a red grass block? O_o
It's mined using the shovel, and it's a PLACEHOLDER.
-Soulsand. I'd just like to see the drop rate of glowstone dust.
wth?
The rest of it... well, compasses could be useful, but they could just point to the closest portal. I like the mob designs(anyway, they are too many... and some of them doesn't fit the nether). Salamander skin as a fire resistant material is a good idea, though i think salamanders are too common in this kind of fire enviroments.
Again, what the hell are you talking about? The description states how many Mobs spawn in a specific cluster, but absolutely NOTHING has been said about how frequent spawns are.
I don't mean to bother you, but this whole suggestion as it is, a bunch of ideas from many people plus your ideas, doesn't seem to fit the game.
I don't add ideas that don't fit the game.
Well, i think that's all i wanted to say now. Thanks for mentioning the Hives.
Hey, like I said, I'm a big fan of the idea being implemented in the Overworld.

First of all, Mushrave is the PERFECT name for these things; it follows Existing Nether Naming convention (word that is descriptive of the block; mush from "mushroom", and word that refers to negative emotions or circumstances; rave as in "raving mad") and it alludes to the ability to use the mushraves to throw a RAVE PARTAAAAYYYY!
Second of all, I see nothing out of the Netheraze Tools that Zurick did any better, the only one that I might give him is the Bone Tools, and I'm considering using them for the Blood Gem tool basis, but keeping the red coloration for the heads of the tools.
Looking forward to heckling you constructively.

Nope. Compare the pattern of the black areas of the sponge to the patterns on the glowstone block, and you should be able to see some pretty obvious similarities that Smelting could easily turn one into the other.
I love the ideas though, except for trolls and salamanders. Those should be on the over world.
Salamanders were originally created for the Nether, though the Tongue lasso ability was added for this thread specifically. The troll was originally designed to throw blocks, but I realized that you can't count on the troll always being around stone, it'd be too easy for him to run out of ammo that should work properly. In the Nether, there's plenty of Netherrack for him to have choice chucking almost anywhere. Plus no sunlight to turn him to stone. Good luck dealing with that horror.

I actually suggested the same thing.
I was insistent on not using regular bones, because of the implications that "An Overworld item now has an incredibly high amount of utility in the Nether."
If the Nether was to have Bone tier tools the bone couldn't come from the "weak skeletons" that we find in the Overworld.
Now, the bones of a massive troll? Those would be strong enough. Not to mention, they'd have been created and grown inside the Nether atmosphere so that they'd be particularly resistant to the corrosive portions, whereas no other Overworld item does.
Implying that Overworld Bones can survive the Nether is, in my eyes, trying too heavily to tie "Oooh, deathly scary" to the Nether instead of actually having it be a place where you can never relax.
The ability to Craft them only came about because tying them ONLY to the Troll made them too hard to get. Initially we wanted to smelt bonemeal back together to get a Demon Bone, but there's no easy code modification that will check the amount of items in the Input of the Furnace. Which would mean 1 bone becomes 3 demon bones, which completely breaks the balance of them.

I'm gonna attribute the name change to Grey, but personally I laughed because it oddly seemed to fit. The first natural colored light.
And as humans we usually only see colored light through stained glass or through colored Glowsticks at Rave parties.
I intentionally left the Mushraves pretty bare (outside of using the Light spectrum wheel) so they could be used as Torch dye, glass dye, or something else.
As for the Netherraze tools... There isn't really anything different about them...
They still have "Infernum" as the head of the tool, and "Grimwood sticks" as the handles. The only real difference is we actually explicitly stated what they were good and bad for.
Also, since someone said it in that list of things I had to skim, I'm a professional coder, so a fair amount I looked at to make sure it wasn't completely infeasible.
Matter of fact, the Freezer was a point of contention because of the chosen implementation (what you see in the post). I am shite with GUIs and I didn't know if it would even be possible to change the gui to show the snowflake instead of the flame based only on what's in the fuel spot.
There may have been some things I missed, or intentionally looked over, but most of them should be fairly easy to code and work in.
(One of the ones I almost vetoed was the Larger and smaller portals, because of how I understand the current portal code to work. But I left it in because of how much I liked the "Larger = more stable but higher chance" and so on modification to it)

Persona 3 much?
Anyways, i do like quite a few of the ideas... except for the blood diamond idea. A diamond that's dropped by monsters? ... Would that make it a grind fest? I'd prefer if it was simply mined and it stacked like diamonds do. Further more, demon bones? Normal bones should work fine. Further more, I don't like the idea that you can't place lighting around grim wood. I suppose if the Aether is added, there could be light sources that resist grim wood. Otherwise, traveling through pitch black forests don't sound like fun.
Other then that, not a bad idea. I support.
Edit:
Actually, there is one thing I'd like to add. Namely, about the grim shards. An idea I have is that you could make a red stone torch from that can be mounted, like normal, to drop the light levels when powered by Red stone.
In the same vain, you can make a grim wood torch with a piece of coal. This creates a blue flame that absorbs the light around it. Basically, a longer reaching gloom wood log.
If this was all implemented I think I would rather hug a creeper (creepers have feelings too! ) than step foot in this scarey as sh*t hell! Good work though and I love the ideas!
See my above post for why a new bone instead of regular bones.
As for Blood Diamond.
