I must have completely read that wrong because those were exactly my assumptions. Thanks for the clarification.
Are you ever going to make custom mob graphics for the Grimhounds, and other things such as Fright Bulbs?
I'm better with 2d custom graphics, rather than 3d custom graphics. I do have ideas for how they should look, but it may be beyond my abilities to manage the visuals to do them justice.

Well, that was supremely helpful. I think not.
All this support is going to your head. It still helps to at least give constructive feedback, you know.
I'm a little rushed for time right now. Heck, that should be obvious from the fact that half the points I raise are cut off before actually making the point.
I always try to give constructive feedback, even when I'm being short with people, but I really don't know what you're expecting. The idea here is that the Grimhounds are not allies by choice, but out of self preservation. The idea that they'll dig up diamonds out of thin air, or be more careful about what they kill as a favor to you, or just generally be helpful in any way other than something they want to do anyway (kill things) just doesn't match up with that at all.
And as someone else pointed out, the light would have no actual effect on enemy spawns, and as I pointed out, the moving light sources, that aren't even attached to a specific block could become a large drain on processing and slow the game down, not something that should be done without much greater practical benefit.
heck, the only other practical suggestion you gave was getting cooked meat from pigs, but that's something you already get using the Raze Tools to kill pigs, and zombie pigmen ALREADY drop grilled pork no matter how they die.
Why not just make Hell/Nether/Grim hounds an enemy and be done with it. There hasn't been a new dangerous mob since October when the Nether was introduced in the first place...and those being Ghasts. No need for more helpful tools right now, even if tenuous. Something has to up the challenge level in this game, some new challenge has to be added.
Very simple: Hell/Nether/Grim hounds bite, but can breathe fire. Found in deserts, near lava in caves, and the Nether. Dislikes all mobs that aren't in the nether. Drops coal and/or netherack.

Read the opening post, Gary. This suggestion already has over half a dozen hostile mob suggestions, and improvements to the mobs already in place.
Though I do earnestly wish that I there was an Aether, and if I could get Notch to add one thing to the game it would be the Aether, I really don't think people should keep referencing it in threads not directly related to it like it's cannon. If Notch wants to add it he will.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
May I suggest that, if we do get wolves through portals, grim-hounds will turn automatically hostile to you while you have a wolf in tow? The same would be true for wolves in the over-world.
I don't see a huge need. The Grimhounds and Wolves could be openly hostile to each other and attack on sight without specifically needing to be hostile to the player.
Secondly, if you take grim-hounds out of their natural habitat through either portals or hacking, they will take half a heart per second damage in the normal world and a full heart per second damage in the Aether.
So you basically want Grimhounds to die in 10 seconds in the Overworld? why not just kill them outright? i don't see what good 5-20 seconds is gong to do anyone.
Also, if Alpha-Grim-hounds do not have a pack, they should not turn aggressive, as they have no dominant position to protect. The same should be true if you only have one grim-hound under your control and it turns Alpha.
Who said anything about the Pack Leader protecting anything? Like i said, Grimhounds like to kill, Pack Leaders like to kill more.
Finally, it might be nice to be able to craft some sort of neutrality amulet or something that keeps grim-hounds neutral unless attacked. I would suggest that this would include some items only found in the Aether. This would fit with the staging progression of mine-craft, and would make the Nether more accessible once you've already 'conquered' it.
No. It might be worth making it so pack leaders will never spawn in peaceful, but otherwise you should NEED to stay on your toes. If you've really "conquered" the Nether, then you can't expect that conquest to go unchallenged, not in a place like the Nether.

Notch said he likes the Aether, but needs to flesh out the Nether before adding a new dimension. That's why this topic was created. The Aether is the whole reason why Grey and Sabata are now coming up with ideas for the Nether, so it's perfectly appropriate to mention it here.
Indeed. Even aside from that, the structure to the Aether gives a good benchmark from which to structure the Nether.
What about this seems any more complicated than what Minecraft already is? Other than the hostile mobs, those are intentionally more complex due to the higher level of focus on the combat in the Nether most of the complexity is there to ensure that the player still needs to exercise their creativity, but towards tactics for battling these mobs.
one thing to keep in mind is that not everything needs to be implemented at once.
Start out just by updating the Zombie Pigmen and Ghasts, Mushrooms growing on walls, and update Soul Sand to Sticky Soul sand here (then at least it would have SOME sort of useful purpose) Glowstone Sand should also be introduce towards the beginning.
Then update to let the player use different sized portals, and throw in Portal Compass and Emergency Port, and the ability to melt Obsidian with Lava, and bone tools. This is probably a good place to add in the Gluttons.
Then update minecarts working in Lava, and updating lava so it can form volcanoes, and update the level generation process to occasionally generate natural volcanoes. Add in the Salamanders and Netherafts shortly after.
After that, you can throw in the Netherrack that can have its flames move from block to block, along with this, update the snowballs, see about adding in the corruption of blocks, and add in Spiked Grems.
From here you move onto adding in Gloomwood and Fright Bulbs, along with Tunnel Mites, and the ability to use Gloomwood in furnaces for freezers.
then you have the stage set to start adding in Netherraze Ore, Demon Bones, Blood Gems, Raze and Blood tools, add in the blight effect on regular tools and also regular plants, throw in the Netherwurm, and possibly the Troll or Brand.
Then add in Mushraves, Dungeons, and Grimhounds, Midas Tears, Golden Buckets, Deadbrush (or whatever it will be called) and the Troll or Brand if they didn't make the previous update.
Corruption is a bad idea. It will ruin a lot of things. >.<
Not it wont, it will just require you to have spacers between blocks when building with VERY specific materials. If you're building with Netherrack IN the Nether, then just make sure to have a mossy cobblestone, or even and ore, block between them a double stone slab or double cobblestone slab could also work. Same thing works for Soul Sand, if you don't want cross corruption, then just don't put them directly adjacent to each other. Sand and Gravel wouldn't fall if placed next to sticky soul sand anyway.
I don't like netherrack as it is. I don't want to be forced to build with materials. If I want a cobblestone tunnel in the nether I shouldn't have to line the outside of it with dirt. BTW this would conflict with your unsupported dirt cavein idea in your block improvement guide. Eh that was a bad idea anyways.
Your arguments really stretch logic to its limits, VA. This is just as bad as those people who complained about the Sticky Soul Sand proposal as players would be TRAPPED in a soul sand pit, unable to get out (like they forgot that the player can still break any block by hand)
It's ALMOST as bad as those people complaining that if you need an axe to mine logs, then there's no way to make an axe, even when it specifically said that the player would have the ability to make sticks and wood from saplings.
Unsupported dirt is only considered unsupported if it doesn't have a block under it OR a supported block NEXT to it. If you want a tunnel of cobblestone, then line the floor and sides with dirt, then build your tunnel and either only put dirt above AS you build the cobblestone support across the ceiling, or just leave empty air.
Put a little forethought into your structures and you can build whatever the **** you want.
I support everything, but only two things that not:
Ghasts with more health? These damned **** are the only reason of I don't live at nether. Well, it could be with a smallest spawn rate, then yes.
Netherrack corruption - If it makes cobblestone block become netherrack (if is this way), we gotta make houses that ghast don't blows, of what? Smoothstone?
At least a new and easy to find block that is not destroyed by ghast fireball. If soul sand is, don't even reply.
Their should also be glowing trees. Is saw a mod that had these and I thought it was cool. Btw, what are the tools you can make using Aether materials?

A) While Ghasts will have more health, their ghast Bombs will damage themselves more, and if you can get one ghast's bomb reflected to another, you can get them to fight each other directly, and they will also aim to aim with the intent to hit YOU (not the camera) so it will be more practical to attempt to hit their bombs back at them.
:cool.gif: Smooth stone also can be corrupted, but I never said anything about Sandstone. Another thing that you need to understand is that the corruption of cobblestone and smoothstone is NOT ONLY being in the Nether, but SPECIFICALLY from TOUCHING Netherrack. If you place another block like dirt between, or have an empty space between Netherrack and cobblestone, the cobblestone wont be corrupted. Plus it takes some time, like grass trying to spread from a grass block to a dirt block. So you can place cobblestone on netherrack, and then break the netherrack out from around it so it's no longer touching.

Are you... lost? Did you even read the opening post at all?
In the Aether SUGGESTION, there aren't any tools, but in the mod there are, but that's up to the mod to discuss, not for the New NETHER suggestion to discuss.
Also, there are GLOOMWOOD trees, which specifically provide shade. Those are cool. Literally, they freeze things and put out fires. I'm not adding a Tree that glows, as that would only overlap with Glowstone, and also compete with Gloomwood for the "nether tree" niche.
Doesn't seem to be much that really needed my response for though.
I'll take another look at the Nether Weather thread when I get some time.
And I'm slowly getting to the point where Grimhounds are starting to get too complicated. So many ideas have been tossed around recently it's hard to keep them straight anymore.

They're going to get a reskin, and possibly a name change.
But what lore did you hear that under?
Also, I'll announce it now, I'm going to be gone this weekend so you won't hear from me for a while and the OP will not be updated.
Don't feel bad that you can't make popular ideas. Just don't post useless posts in the best threads.
