Tired of having gold items such as that armor that you got from that zombie that somehow has Prot IV, Unbreaking III, Thorns III and not knowing what to do with it because you don't want to throw away such a "rare" item even though it's fairly common to get those enchantments when enchanting with gold items? Well, with my opinion, I believe that there could be a solution to such clutter. As you know, it takes 4 gold ingots and 4 netherite scraps to make a netherite ingot. Wouldn't it make sense to just also combine netherite scraps with gold armor/tools? Of course, the amount of scraps would need to correspond with the amount of gold it took to create the item, but it'd be far worth it to create the netherite prototype that would be the product between the two. This would then extract all the enchantments from the gold item into this. The item that you have created wouldn't have any use, you can't use it for armor or as a tool, it's to the equivalent to an ingot or the "shadow" of what you're about to make of it. It's only use is to combine with diamond armor in the smithing table, and it would transmit all the enchantments to the diamond armor/tool and combining if the diamond item was already enchanted. This would result in creating a netherite item depending on which item you chose, and to keep netherite scrap restrictions to what they were in the first place, the amount of scraps for gold items that only use up one ingot would still require four scraps. Other items such as a chest plate would require at least 8 scraps, and for certain enchantments, that's easily worth doubling the amount of scraps normally used to upgrade diamond armor with a plain netherite ingot. I just thought of this today and I thought that it would make some sense.
I just wish we could transfer enchants to other items, like if I had a leather helmet with prot 4, I want to be able to put that on my diamond helmet, maybe a feature where it costs a new item (rare one) to do?
IMO golden stuff should have its enchantments recycled into exp better on grindstone instead
