This isn’t so much a suggestion but more of a prediction for a future update.
Intro:
as we all know netherite is the new armour to have even though it’s not insanely advanced over diamond it’s fire proofing puts it up enough to be worth it whilst still not being op, which makes sense as it’s only born using a material found and a piece of diamond armour/tool.
this feature could be implemented numerous times across the game using a material found, diamond and a smithing table.
Main idea:
This system has left the upgradable diamond armour feature majorly expandable for a new ore/material to be found to upgrade diamond In a new way, Just like netherite I expect the protection points will stay the same (that may not be a fact) but will give different perks as netherite armour having the perk of knock back resistance and also fire proofing the armour.
One of my examples:
Name: pasident stone (all names are in the works)
This new material can be found at the bottom of deep ocean biomes stuck in piles of stone bulging from the sea bed, these would be extremely rare due to them being easily visible.
Just like ancient debre it can be smelted except this time into a thick liquified substance called “sea elixir” ,with 4 of this substance they can be crafted with four prismarine shards into an ingot called the “ocean ingot” using this with diamond gear the smithing table will make pacidant armour this armour will have heightened underwater effectiveness the equivalent for knockback resistance in this case would be a speed effect while swimming also the water breathing effect (the more parts of this new armour you have on the longer the breathing affect it would last) the equivalent to netherites fire proofing would be it would start floating a lot faster if dropped in water whilst it also would start having a neon blue glow if dropped to it making it very easy to spot especially in water
The tools would have the same buoyancy and the same glow and they would majorly upgrade the mining underwater speed.
with efficiency 5 it would become very near insta mine under water.
The trident would be a special item in this case as you can put the two together for an upgraded durability (like the others) and higher damage when thrown under water underwater also a shimmer different to the enchanted shimmer on it while in water 😂.
(this is part of a comment I replied to someone with)
the smithing table is away to combine diamond and a material so what other material could be combined with diamond next? (Especially with the expected cave update in the future).
I'm intrigued. How do you think armor would be upgraded?like Netherite, would it be as simple as combining a resource with armor and tools?
If so, maybe an iron ingot and leather armor makes studded leather armor. Or, a gold ingot and iron armor could boost the armor's enchantability while giving it some sweet gold accents.
I personally think it’ll just be a simple case of diamond armour and tools combined with a Certain resource found
(using the smithing table of course). the smithing table is away to combine diamond and a material so what other material could be combined with diamond next? (Especially with the expected gave update in the future )
Gold + lapis block = magic armour, extreme enchantability, slightly increased vulnerability to thrown potions
Iron + quartz block = composite, slows down player a bit, but provides excellent knockback resistance
Chainmail + potion of invisibility = stealth armour that makes player more stealthy (5% decreased mob detection radius, 10% when sneaking or crawling, per each armour piece, stackable)

Dwarf gamer found:
Buildings - square, not round
Materials - from rubble mound
Dark caves - lit 'n' cleaned out
Settlements - deep underground
Farmability - to grinder bound
Shields - made creepers but sound
Axes and crossbows - taking mobs out
That sounds super interesting to use but unfortunately I dought they would add so much change to the stages of Minecraft (the stages usually being: iron then diamond then netherite armour.)
the reason I think that is because Mojang always Tries to keep things pretty straight forward (in a sense)Just like the material progression System.
my idea does slightly go against that system but it would be Just adding more to the new finding a material to combine to diamond.
Except that lapis one if down well,so you could just wear a helmet and then diamond for the rest or whatever armour for going to the end and the helmets for the shulkers then that would be cool
I hope that made sense please forgive me about any spelling mistakes as it’s 5am here 😂(Make that 6:55 after coming back to re edit this)
Ooh. I really like this idea, and visually, that could be quite fun/regal looking. Perhaps the Lapis upgrade reduces the Armor Rating for the full set to 9 (2 points better than Leather, 2 points worse than Gold), but increases enchantability by a sizable degree (up from 25 to 35), and a stacking 12.5% reduction per piece to harmful effects at the cost of some durability with each effect reduced (probably duration reduced except for Instant Harming potions).
It'd be a kind of flavor armor ideal for fighting enemies who deal most of their damage via status effects (i.e. Witches, Withers, Shulkers, etc)
Yeah if they added it I think it would work If you could make a full set but only actually needed 1 peice of the armour to get a lot of the pros so you could have it as a helmet then full diamond or netherite Armour for the rest so it could be used in every day Minecraft Like in the end otherwise if a ender man goes for you In the end your dead especially if your in hard mode making it pretty useless as it would be so streamlined to a few certain mobs.

I thought of the reverse, but if we include that lapis weakens physical armour protection, we in fact might let the armour decrease status effects.
I like that! I like that more than my previous proposal!

Resistance might be piece based, for example, if entire set reduced negative effects timers by 50%, chestplate might give 20%, leggings 15%, helmet 9% and boots 6%.

I'm glad you like it! My line of thinking is that most armor upgrades shouldn't be unambiguous upgrades in power but more like lateral shifts that change the functionality. Like, yes, it should buff, but not a pure buff, so then you have reasons to say "well hey, the augmented armor is good in this scenario but it doesn't overrule the value of normal armor," so it becomes more of a choice on what you use.
