They've made an iron block, a gold block, a diamond block, and a lapis block. But wait? What about redstone?
Redstone blocks can be good for storing redstone, redstone is more common then any other ore, maybe a little less then iron, but it still gives you a lot of redstone. Redstone blocks shorten the length of redstone, say you had 18 packs of it, reduce it by 9, you get 2 packs of those blocks.
Not only does it reduce redstone, but it also has a use other then just making circuits, It could be a decorative. It would look like the lapis block almost exactly, except it'd be red. (You could make a replacement nether and use it as the sky :tongue.gif:)
It would be crafted as any other block:
(Let redmushroom be redstone)
I apologize if this has been already suggested. Over all, think it's a good idea?
I like your idea for the compact storage block and decoration means.
Maybe also let the blocks be craftable into tools? It should have the strength of iron tools but a lesser durability gauge maybe. Shining scarlet tools would look intimidating.

NO. The idea was decent until you mentioned tools. Why does everyone think that every single ore needs to be able to turn into yet another tier of tools? It's a material that turns to powder when you hit it enough. Why would you make a tool out of it?

lol Thanks.
However, I just dont see a reason that redstone could be a tool. I cant explain it though.
