There's a post about this that is almost two years old that was dug up a few days ago. There needs to be a drawback for every benefit. Come up with one that is convincing, and maybe people will like it.
Maybe this elytra-chestplate allows you to only glide half the normal distance, but gives you half of the armor of the chestplate.
Locking, as there is already a thread that has been posted on in the last 30 days about the same thing.

attach an elytra to your chestplate and fly with more safety
Would be useful when fighting mobs too
