Okay, so one day I was playing Minecraft and I came up to a snow covered hill and right next to it was just normal dirt and there were even random patches of dirt in the middle of the snow; this got me thinking, how the snow got there. Now I know that the program randomly generates snow where ever the hell it feels like, but what if there were several types of weather to help make this awesome game more real and explain the appearance of snow, as well as give different advantages and disadvantages.
FOG In this weather I was thinking that maybe the normal white colored fog will turn black or dark grey; to make it even more distinguishable Instead of the fog being far distance it would be normal, instead of normal it would be small, and so on. In the fog weather, monsters spawn during the day just out of the line of sight in the open. The only way to protect yourself is to be inside a building or enclosed room. Torches will help you see but will not stop monsters spawning in the open. The typical Dark or shadowy environment will also have monsters spawning, and this can be stopped by torches.
RAIN In this weather the sky would have more cloud then normal but the ground will not be all shadowy, and water will fall from the sky in the form of droplets. When this is happening I was thinking that plants will grow two times faster than normal, puddles will form on the ground and if you walk in them you will slow down a fraction. Another thing that could be incorporated might be that torches with no cover over them might be put out during the rain storm but will self ignite after the rain stops. And maybe there could be lighting if Notch feels adventuress, in which case it would strike trees and set them alight.
SNOW In snowy weather the sky would be the same as when it rains but instead of water coming from the sky snow would. I was thinking that snow could have a speed reducing feature to it so that it doesn’t look like some random person decided to pour bleach on the grass. Snow would otherwise be the same as it normally is in the present game, except for one feature when the sun comes out the snow will evaporate and leave no trace of it.
SUN The sun would be like the standard weather in Minecraft, the only difference that should be incorporated is the evaporation of both water puddles and snow.
FOG: Imagine this: You start a new game, and spawn in snow. 3 seconds later...
Also, what happens if your render distance is on tiny?
Rain: Random forest fires would enrage some people.

I'm always happy just 'cause there isn't a reason to be sad.
Don't take this as there is nothing that could cause sadness. I just mean it's pointless to dwell on it. I mean, depression is so boring.
FOG: You are right about the tiny distance. If you had it that small I guess that it should just turn dark and leave it at that.
RAIN: Random forest fires would enrage people so I guess lighting should be a toggle setting so that it is activated by strange people who deliberately enrage themselves. Lighting would only be within the draw distance of the player.
