Minecraft currently has a lot of weapons, but one that is strangely absent, is the gun. Here are some ideas for the gun.
Basic Usage
The gun would be loaded with gunpowder and bullets which can be crafted from iron nuggets. Loading would take a while, and would be interrupted by being attacked and things like that. However, guns would have a longer range than either crossbows or bows. The bullets would also be faster. This would make guns better for attacking at a distance. Guns are crafted as shown in the attached image.
Enchantments
Extra Bullet: The gun can be loaded an extra time while crouching, allowing the gun to store 2 bullets at once.
Velocity: The bullet will go faster. 3 levels possible in survival.
Lucky Drift: The bullet will drift towards the nearest hostile/neutral mob. (not beyond what it would do randomly)
I've seen quite a bit of gun suggestions, but my problem with them is that they just don't really belong.
If you take a look at what Minecraft currently has, it has absolutely no sign of modern-day involvement, save for the redstone. What I'm saying is that most, if not all, blocks have a medieval theme (At least, that's what I think) to them. And guns weren't in the medieval ages (According to my knowledge).
Sorry, but this suggestion gets No Support from me.
TNT, Gunpowder, Plate armour, Potatoes, Engine powered vehicles, Electronics, Rocket powered flight, Incendiary devices, Accurate mapping, Recorded music, and Handheld watches are things in minecraft that first came about alongside or after guns came into common use.

Yea true, except "potatoes," lmao, unless you mean modern cultivars. Also Greek fire ("incendiary devices") predates firearms. I wouldn't mind seeing firearms in Minecraft myself but unfortunately that will never happen because of the zeitgeist that Microsoft and Mojang have to pay lip service to. That would be great having a ranged weapon that were much more expensive but easier to aim. However firearms are weapons of mass destruction as far as these guys are concerned so instead we will have bees.
Honestly I'd settle for just more medieval/renaissance variety, like maybe a pike for longer-distance melee, javelins for early but short-range ranged combat, horse movement being independent of mouse movement (see boats) so you can strafe/Parthian shot enemies, and more armed enemies but with better animations, similar to the axe-wielding illager.

I don't see any reasons to add a gun, or a similar weapon; at least not in the mechanics provided here, as it's overall a weapon tha tonly has range as an advantage over bows and crossbows, and those already have a lot of range, so it'd be an inferior weapon at higher cost.
A way to improve it would be to play with historical weapons and ammunition. Particularly, you could have it revolve around using very different ammo types that effectively make it several weapons in one.
Historically, several different shot configurations were used, from simply solid shot to "buck and ball", which consisted of a single large bullet shot alongside several buckshot pellets or outright buckshot, to even more fantastic loads, such as primitive rifle grenades (Which didn't exist IRL, but let's roll with it).
As we have the crossbow for more precise/need charging up and bows being more flexible I think the balance is there. Guns whenever I've used them in mods never feel right or require to much to make. Maybe a flintlock pistols or a tripwire, string, slingshot type of thing but ammunition is the tricky part.
I find bows/crossbows, splash potions, TNT, fireballs/flint n steel (just listing a few not all option) work. You have two projectile weapons, grenades with effects that are splash potions, a mine you can detonate and replace as long as it's not been lit by fire/redstone, fireballs if you come across ghasts, and flint n steel to use to make people's paths awkward (cactus also but going off of more tool like uses here). They have enough uses. A gun could work but it's not something I'd want, and melee can cover what a spread shot could for timing to attack. If it were a grappling hook or a gadget/assistance type of situation I'd go for it, but combat and guns have never been a fan of as navigation or other means I find to be more interesting and useful then just another way to defeat a mob or player when 10 or so methods exist already or people want more 'realistic/modern' features.
Needs more to separate itself from other features the game has or a more creative use than just defeating mobs/players. 70% No Support 30% Add more depth or rework it and I'll change my mind to support.
Someone who's been making threads since 2017 should probably know that guns are a hated idea that will never touch the game.
Edit: Why are you suggesting something that you know will never be supported? You made another thread mentioning a gun and it got rejected. Why bring it back up?
Am I on a controlled substance or is the suggestions forum just a popularity contest basically? Obviously none of these ideas will hit the game, I don't think I've seen a single update in Minecraft that was actually suggested by anyone at any point.
Hmmm, if you guys have ever heard of the quiverbow mod, I think some of the weapons would be pretty cool to see in the base game. Well thought out, balanced, using vanilla materials and even having some slight lore behind their construction. I think they'd be perfect.

I think that taking the approach of that mod would be the only way to actually add a balanced gun, as strictly going by the more typical formats tends to create the same archetype of gun (Fires slowly. Deals lots of damage. May or may not be accurate) that overlaps too much with already-existing weapons, as well as possibly providing new uses for the less useful materials. The only changes I'd make from the mod would be to not use craft to reload, as it'd be a bit uninmersive in vanilla; as well as using more intuitive crafting recipes (I know the mod's recipes reflect the guns' mechanisms, but in vanilla, it'd come off as strange. Then again, it could be made so that weapons like that one are made at the Smithing Table, assuming it is used to make new gear and the GUI is more user-friendly).
sounds nice though adding Guns from Medieval ages would be cool
and speaking about that it would be awesome
if you can find it in ship wreckages, It would give players more reason to loot ship wreckages though..
(sry for bad eng.)
It would not be cool. No. I have no idea why people keep thinking guns are something that would "work". We don't need pure upgrades from what we have in the game. No one wants to join a multiplayer game and get shot in the face.

Comparing this to the a mod is meaningless. A mod can be chosen. A vanilla addition is permanently there for everyone. I don't know what part of you is thinking that "guns would be perfect", but that part of you has a bad view on game design.

There's plenty of ranged weapons in the game that already do a lot, and since this isn't really developed at all there's no basis for adding it.
Guns would be the only option for attacking something high up, and an enchanted gun could be good for ranged attacks on far away / smaller mobs.

Crossbows already have a pretty flat trajectory, and Multishot+fireworks can do the latter fairly well.

lol it's not "strangely absent". It's rightfully absent. derp. I'd hate to see this thing in multiplayer. Guns will just never happen.

This seems like it would just be too out of place and overpowered for Minecraft.
I don't even play Minecraft much anymore yet here I am on the Minecraft forums for some reason...
Mojang has already said that they will never add guns to the game.
Guns have no place in the game.
