I think this is something minecraft needs so you dont have to spend too much time pressing your inventory key.
Lets say your item bar looks something like the following:
1 - [>>-i>] Bow
2 - Sword
3 - Pickaxe
4 - Spade
5 -
6 - x 32
7 - x 2
8 - :biggrin.gif: for funsies
9 - x 60
Main Inventory:
64 x 2 64 x 6 x 3
Refer to the above for the following:
Normaly if you were in the middle of constructing a massive castle or building of any kind of structure, your items run low and you must return over and over to your inventory to replenish your hotkeys.
now in all seriousness this is not really a hassle or anything, but it is unnecessary.
So the idea would be to add a double tap function to the Minecraft hotkey system.
As you can see above hotkey 7 is running low on cobble, a quick double tap on 7 would then add any amount of the item (2+62 from inventory) from your inventory to the hotkey.
Now with food, swords, picks and other nonstackable items this poses a problem. The solution would be to make specified slots for items so you could have key 5 for food, with a semi-transparent picture of a porkchop on it in game. This way you could double tap the 5 key (Empty) to quickly fetch a chunk of anytype of food in the heat of battle. Of course this works with other non stackable items aswell, I would love to see transparent pictures for all of my specified non stackable items, Minecraft may be the only place I STRIVE to organize
These WOULD be capeable of holding other materials/items besides what is specified, but then would have to be manually put in the normal way.
So...... ?

GENERATION 16: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
I would support this. There have been times when my sword broke after killing a zombie with a creeper coming right after him. Kind of annoying to have to go into my inventory while I'm being attacked just to equip a new sword, also annoying to keep 2 swords equipped when one is near it's end.
